Whilst out for a potter around the local lanes I saw this veteran car which I think is a 1903 Sunbeam, just doing exactly the same as me,having a potter about in the sunshine 8-)

Fantastic machine.

:o That has to be the coolest thing yet posted in this thread! Needs a Hyabusa engine though, doesn't it?

That's nothing chief. I once ran the length of the place naked and clenching a single pink rose between my butt cheeks. I wasn't noticed either, probably because so many of the locals adopt the same style when the summer comes.

Today, I have mostly been seeing the same A35 van several times. It's grey (just like the one in which I was conceived), looks very tidy indeed and I think I know whose it is, but will have to wait until Wednesday the 11th to find out if I'm right (Metro Centre meet, first of the season, be there or be somewhere else. Lots of classics, Yanks, customs and vans, in the car parks by the Maccie D's, Pizza hut and Pets 'R' Us, or is it Toys? I'm never too sure about that. Arrive any time after about 6pm. Plug over).

On Tuesday I travelled to Guildford & back by train. Near Swindon, I saw a red MG Midget bodyshell (The one with the high chrome strip), on top of a shed or shipping container, that was behind a fence at the side of the track. Between Reading and Guildford I spotted a grey Ford Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac (Wasn’t that close to it and I saw only the back), that looked nice and shiny.

Yesterday I went to Parkend (Dean Forest Railway) and saw a red 1988 Morgan 4/4 four seater and going the other way was a white 1960s Mini. The Morgan 4/4 of that time used a Ford CVH engine (Some had Fiat twin cams) and I recognised the Ford gearlever knob.

Like the 1978 4/4, that my father briefly owned, the gear lever was a bit far forward (The 1978 model had a Kent engine and 4 speed box); the first 4/4s were designed for the separate Moss box. The original +8 had the Moss box but when the SD1 box was fitted, the lever was in a better position, than on the post Moss box 4/4s. The V8 engine would be a touch longer but I haven’t compared an SD1 box with a Ford Type 9, so I don’t know for sure where the extra length comes. When the Ford box is fitted to Midgets, the remote is too long and Frontline do a shortened version; it’s the opposite of the Morgan problem. I suppose it’s easier to shorten than to lengthen.
