The grille is later 2A, but it all means very little - as said, most have been altered from original spec and I suspect this one won't stay as it is for too long. If it needs replacement parts and what I need comes from an S3 and fits (or S2 and fits!), they will be fitted, regardless of model - unless it is too expensive! I seem to think it was registered in September, but I don't remember when the S3 was introduced - somewhere about that time though? I shouldn't say that I liked the earlier S2/S2A's - especially the old fashioned dashboard and inboard headlamps - and didn't really like the newer versions! Practicality and value for money rules though!
I quite agree. The 1963 date on the original listing made it look very dodgy, but once he'd corrected it to 1971 it seems perfectly acceptable, and very similar to my own 109. There would originally have been a chassis number stamped onto one of the front dumb-irons (the extended part of the chassis where the front springs attach), but these are among the first bits to corrode so have nearly always been replaced by now anyway.

Can only agree with the above, at '71 it is right on the model change and no need to doubt the identity at all.

Probably one of the first threes, does it matter as to 2a or 3, not a bit given you most likely have a servo and all synchro gearbox, better heater yet very much the same vehicle. The diesel conversion is also worthwhile in my opinion.

On another note, the boy parted a while back from his 2A, which was a real Triggers broom, then he got rid of the 2 door Range Rover he had aquired and got a Midget.

There was I happy at a future with very little welding in it.... Well, the Midget ended up being a lot more trouble than it should have been so has ended up as a project in waiting for me and somehow he has fetched quite a tidy 1989 3.9 with LPG Rangy back.

So guess what I've been welding lately, on seconds thoughts don't, thats way to easy

Is there such a thing as a product of the green oval that doesn't need welding? The local land rover expert was talking to me about how bad the 322s are for rot now they are getting on a bit. I think Land Rover must have patented iron oxide :S
Saying that they are fantastic cars and I wouldn't be without one.

I'm a tad annoyed now!

Not because of the Landy (the cheque has cleared my bank, so all is set fair for a new resto thread after next weekend!). No, it's because I went to see my friend on Friday (actually I went to leave a message about the whacker with his wife, but the friend was at home, so I spent a lot longer there than I intended!).

He was taking the day off so he could go and look around for a new, much smaller, trailer!

However, I suspect he now thinks I'm getting a tow bar fitted to the Golf so I could tow his 2.5T trailer about!!

Incidentally, he's thinking of selling the Delica as it's getting somewhat rusty and starting to cost a lot to keep on the road. Apparently, a Land Cruiser is the most likely replacement and not a Padjero or other Mitsubishi.

My S2 has a replacement rear half chassis, all the outriggers and dumb irons, eventually I may fit a front 1/4 chassis as there are a few dodgy patches and the dumb iron repairs are not fantastic, this is still considered original...

As long as it looks to original spec no one will ever worry.

If it is a genuine very ealry S3 they a quite sought after, good luck.
