I bought 3 tubes of it for a fiver at the PC show on Sunday. I can't say I have ever considered lubricating a bolt with it. Adding grease / oil to something I want to stay tight doesn't sound like a good idea. I do use reversible thread lock quite often.
With modern cars I rarely come across a bolt that is rusted to the nut, certainly not often enough for it to be worth finding a solution for. The one that really annoys me is bolts rusted in a sleeve. eg the steering box bolts on a land / range rover where they go through the chassis or lower rear suspension arm bolts on a focus. After 5 years they always need removing with a grinder.

Talkin' of Range Rovers , have your 390631 retainers gone rusty Terry ? I've got a new pair i don't need !! They were for a '71 I had , might not be suitable for yours though.

I was very lucky today to view a Discovery that was not rusted through everywhere....i think most of them are pre-rusted on the
production line...

The same as the defenders and range rovers then. I'm sure that Land Rover have even invented a new type of rust for the all aluminium cars just to keep up their reputation

i remember seeing a 12 month old disco rotting away, while the chaps wifes car a diahatsu 4 track which was 3 years old in as new condition.

That sounds about right. LR have the patent on rust.

Land Rover has in my opinion a reputation which is not deserved what with no rust prevention ..broken half shafts
rotting bulkheads ....you name it, and a extremely high purchase price ......

Reverse drill bits are still around, there's a fair few on eBay, I'm going to need some at some point soon as I have a snapped nipple to deal with on each Metro calliper... There's three per calliper, its the same one on each that's sheared, so it'll be heat, heat, and more heat, and boring out with left hand drill bits, there's no other way.

Or progressively drill out to the root diameter of the thread, then pick out the remaining threads and clean up with a plug tap. That's how we used do it in 1803. The original nipple's centre bore will guide the drill.
