I don't know if I have ever seen two cars crash on the road; I have heard them for sure. At races and hillclimbs (Not sure about rallies; may be just the aftermath) I have seen plenty; never a nice thing to see. I remember lining up, to take a run at Prescott, when a wrecked car was towed back to the paddock and parked near the paddock exit; just what you need to focus the mind :!: Only once have I been at a meeting, where there was a fatality, though I didn't see the crash, as I had just gone to get some sleep when it happened.

 I never, well hardly ever, find amusement in other people's misfortunes but just then I came close to having a slight chuckle at the thought of the man who could actually have gained by having his van's rear window broken by a runaway tree managing to hit that tree and not break the window.
:( :| :) :D   ;)

The other bad things aren't even slightly funny though and cycling's even worse than having a windy van.

A few weeks ago I witnessed a crash.

Coming along a country lane towards our house, just near where we turn into our lane there was a broken drain on the opposite side of the road, which had a triangle and a cone over it. There were two vehicles coming the other way, and as they can't pass the cone without coming onto the other side of the road (which I occupied) the first one, a Mini, stopped. The second one was a Renault Espace, and smacked full-speed into the Mini - bits of Mini and Renault scattered all over the road, looked like both would be a write-off to me.

I considered that the Mini dirver (a woman) had done the correct thing in stopping, and so I got out and after checking that both drivers were OK I offered to be a witness for her. She looked woefully at me, pointed at the Renault driver (a man) and said "that's my husband....."

I said "Oh, I think I'd better leave you to it then....." and quietly slunk off.

I'd love to know what they said to each other though, and what their insurance company thought of it all. He was definately in the wrong though - too fast, too close, and not paying attention.

Yes, but he was her husband: isn't that the norm?

Perhaps hitting the T4's back window with a log might be better than a hammer - then say it was a bit of the tree that went through it and the bits of bark will back you up.

Some years ago (like 20+), when I was at college, we were standing outside having a fag break (or "Chat" as we called it) and a Renault 5 came down the road. There are wide pavements and no parking on the college side of the road and some parking on the other side of the road (if you got there early enough). The driver suddenly realised that there was an empty parking space, so he stopped (near some rather attractive young females), flicked the car into reverse to do a 3-point turn (with lots of revs and a fair bit of speed) so he would be pointing in the right direction. It was a pity he didn't notice the steel lamp post until it was an inch or two into the boot. The lamp post shook for a while until the glass fell off and shattered on the roof. The lad decided to park somewhere else for some reason.

The Policewoman's father rang a bloke one morning to ask for his insurance details after he had put his car through a fence. The man denied all knowledge until my friend asked him if he wanted his front number plate back! If you crash in the country, don't take the car to the local garage...

Just make sure you bash it outside-in not inside-out or it will look dodgy ;)
