S3 bulkhead and heater too. I'd put money on it being an S3.

That said given most are like Triggers broom by now I wouldn't be inclined to worry too much. It could be a S3 bulkhead and body parts sat on the correct chassis, chassis number if present will be on the drivers side front dumbiron / spring hanger if you want to check. Most have by now been repaired there though and lost the chassis number.

Speaking of real four wheel drive vehicles, is it true that the Defender (Or what ever the proper Land Rover is now called) has been dropped because it's the wrong shape for running pedestrians over safely It sounds daft but daft seems to be in fashion in Jobsworth Britain (And Europe) How will the army manage; they can't drive round in handbags surely......a local farmer I know won't be too pleased, as he reckons that for the intended purpose, the Land Rover is still the best.

According to various articles in LRM / LRO they are working on a replacement (thank god they dropped the POS DC100) as it is getting harder and harder to meet the emissions regs. I would imagine as it has the aerodynamics of a garden shed and is made of girders it is going to be impossible to improve it much more. I suspect the EU will try harder to stamp on it with the pedestrian safety thing too. They have promised a replacement so fingers crossed they do a decent job of it and make something easy to work in!

Personally I could never justify buying a new one anyway and I love my range rover so don't really mind that much other than it is being discontinued but it will mean some mechanical parts and replacement headlights are going to be more difficult to find.

My friend had a Padjero (two to be exact) and now has a Delica, which he's had for five or six (or more) years. He rates the Delica much more highly than the Padjeros - one of which only lasted a week! He so likes the Delica that he can't find anything better to replace it! One thing he did like was that all the diffs can be locked, unlike the Range Rover that the Padjero replaced. The Delica can certainly push heavy trailers backwards up his steep gravel drive: the Range Rover never managed that!

I'm not bothered if the Landy is an S3 or upgraded S2A, though confess I had wondered about the bulkhead and the different heater didn't register until last night! The grille is later 2A, but it all means very little - as said, most have been altered from original spec and I suspect this one won't stay as it is for too long. If it needs replacement parts and what I need comes from an S3 and fits (or S2 and fits!), they will be fitted, regardless of model - unless it is too expensive! I seem to think it was registered in September, but I don't remember when the S3 was introduced - somewhere about that time though? I shouldn't say that I liked the earlier S2/S2A's - especially the old fashioned dashboard and inboard headlamps - and didn't really like the newer versions! Practicality and value for money rules though!

Martin, I saw a prototype of the "next" Defender on TV a while ago. It wasn't a close-up and only a brief glance, but it looked a bit like an older Freelander - certainly it had lost the chassis, which I think it was a cost-cutting idea (dressed up as a handling/safety improvement), but that will ruin the Land Rover concept of "stick anything on the chassis", which made it so versatile. I don't know if pedestrian safety was a consideration as, if memory serves, commercial stuff doesn't come into the passenger car regs - that's how Jeeps etc have survived US regulations! I gather the powers that be thought that the competition were making inroads into the Defender market: wsn't that why the Freelander came to be? Or the Discovery (that was introduced as a smaller and cheaper alternative to the Range Rover)

I suspect we are all will have to post something in there over the next few years
although from what has been offered in another post at scrap money it may not need much guessing as to my next toy
