O I C! I was getting that the wrong way round, and assuming that it was the amount of VED left on the car which the seller might want to keep, see how I get so confused? :oops:

I was under the impression that it was illegal for a dealer to sell a car without tax.

Never heard that one before, but it is still common for traders to weigh the VED in - think about it; they can't know how long it'll be in stock and won't knowingly lose money, nor can the seller be sure whether the buyer wants the car in the PLG class - and offer a fresh disc with the vehicle at cost, though they'll charge for the trip to the Post Office in some cases! ;)

Ahh DVLA have changed the rules on that too now! You can cash the disc in, but the registered keeper gets the cheque from Swansea! So unless the dealer puts it in their name they'd not get any refund!
