Is it just me or are car stereos dropping the CD?

16 rpm please, you can get almost an hour per side at that speed, all proper turntables have it.

Re: Is it just me or are car stereos dropping the CD?
My parents had (It's still in the attic) a "Dynatron" record player and I'm sure that had a 16rpm option (Never seen a 16 rpm record
). The right hand speaker doesn't work and it's the socket that's dead. It had a such a nice tone, that when it was replaced by a Midi system, we thought we'd put it in the attic and perhaps one day get it repaired. Of course you may not get needles for it nowadays (They weren't the double sided type or the more modern type, where the needle is in the middle of a plastic frame). I know it has a nifty adjustable weight on the back of the arm to adjust the weight on the stylus.
Anyway back to cars and I am reading a book on the OHC MG cars (Midget/Magna/Magnette) of the years 1928 - 36 and it mentions that a radio was available in some of the models, at a cost of £21.00
(At the time my grandfather was getting about £5.00 per week, as a fitter at the A.E.C factory and his new semi detached house had cost about £550).

Mmm, nice. The Hacker Brothers (who later made stuff that carried their own name) were the brains behind the Dynatron brand. I have rather too many examples of their product range in my house.Dynatron
And this is (slightly)

Arrived today, and its very light and small, no CD components I suppose, also only has wiring for only two speakers which suits the Acclaim! To answer Rich's question its FM only on the radio, though R4 is on FM anyhow...hobby wrote:Looking at the ebay listing it says AM/FM, however on the Dignity website it says just FM... As I don't use the old MW or LW stations much (if at all) and I like to use an SD card for record storage/playing I've ordered one. I'll let you know what it says when it comes...rich. wrote:do they pick up radio 4 longwave?
Best description would be cheap and cheerful, though if it does what it says it does then it should do me...
Re: Is it just me or are car stereos dropping the CD?
Should do the job unless you're into your cricket. That's on 1500m/198KHz (R4 LW) and MW while VHF/FM listeners are provided with plays & s**t.
Meh, doesn't sound like a bad compromise.

Re: Is it just me or are car stereos dropping the CD?
Well to keep mother happy (for the moment anyway) I had taken the
CD Radio out of the escort before it was scrapped, I fitted that into
the volvo.
(I was hoping to have this radio for me to use in the tool shed )
An ebay bought adapter from volvo wiring loom to iso connector for
£2.50 inc vat and postage. Then a home made adapter from iso socket
to ford plugs. Yes the wiring is a little long as I had virtually no wiring
on the ford plugs. A wiring guide off a mainly Russian web site gave me
the wiring of the plugs for this june 2006 head unit.

As the head unit has nice big buttons which are easy for mother to use
with her arthritis, and she already knows how to use it.

I just need to get a bit of black plastic to fill the inch high gap along the
top of the head unit.

She knows that if it goes wrong the replacement unit will be without the
option of a cd.
