Yeah, I ed over that one too. I even like the MGB wheels they've fitted, which appear quite at home on there, in spite of the dire warnings about offset and wheel bearing wear that are being expressed by a handful of armchair Allegro fettlers in certain other fora.
I'm still ing now. Allegro estates are just such a cool thing, especially in Gusset Brown. Love it!

my first car was an immaculate blue 2 door 1300 allegro.. my dad had a brown allegro estate.. it became known as the hearse.... i have fond memories of allegros i & my brothers had a few aggro's i like them!!

It's a shame that Hydrolastic suspension isn't an easy conversion for an Allegro as it is for a later Maxi that was supplied with Hydrasag , so many 'Leggies have died for the want of new displacers, valve conversions to allow the reinflation of the units when the nitrogen has all escaped or displacers that have been over pressurised on the liquid side by people who were desperate to get the trim height up a bit when the actual problem was lost gas pressure. In terms of rust, the estates seem to have taken the bullet for the whole range as I'm sure the saloons weren't as bad as many cars of their era in that respect.

What's not to like? I saw it at Beaulieu, it looks gross, but more important, you can buy a classic car transporter and caravan for far less shekels.

Version a: The idea did cross my mind, but apparently, the seller let it go for a bargain price to a George Melly lookalike who turned up in an old MG to view the truck.

Version b: I just bought a Toyota bB to replace the Corolla as a daily driver so that ate up this month's car budget. And rum budget, food budget, central heating fuel budget, holiday budget, etc. But what the hey, I've bought a car whose interior can be made into a usable double bed, so all is well. I'm travelling down to something called "Luton" to pick up the tiny MPV on Tuesday but sadly, it's a nine year old specimen of a car that was only released in 1999 so I can't post about that on here, even though it has a bench front seat and a column gearchange.

You have to be very careful with front bench seats. I once had to pull out to avoid a kid.
