id avoid that London if i could, i mean who would really want to go there on purpose??
I must agree - out of everywhere I have lived / visited in the world 'London' is the biggest dump you can come across - never have I known such ignorant & arrogant human beings and the driving is something else from another planet !!

- it probably was once upon a time a decent place to be and earn a living - but that went a long time ago - there is just no ownership - the councils don't care - the government cares less - the mayor is a waste of space, and the vast majority of everybody else is just out to either thieve or rip you off. However, I am originally from Yorkshire and the wife is Canadian so we too are immigrants to the big city - we have lived here 20 years but just into our 50's we are way too old & grumpy to tolerate this dump any more so we have our place on the market and are en route out of here to nice little pad in the country somewhere (haven't found it yet but still searching for somewhere with multiple parking & garaging opportunities at the top of the list - bedrooms & gardens come way down my list

) The one good side to the London dump is that we purchased our place for £120k 12 years ago and are just selling up at £500k

and its a one bed apartment !!!! - that's going to buy a small house and a hell of lot of parking, workshop & garage space
Daf van for me as well

£500k in rural Northumberland, Berwickshire or Roxburghshire would get you a fair sized smallholding with as many buildings as one person could hope to fill with old motors in their lifetime.

OK so the winters are potentially cold but summers are as warm as anywhere else and it doesn't get dark at the height of summer, which is handy for the all night beach parties.
In spite of the ill-informed and bigoted view taken by some Daily Mail-reading imbeciles that the UK is "the world's dustbin" and in spite of the fact that France is a very nice place with much going for it, there are good places nearer to home.
Sadly, the Daf looks likely to be heading to the RoI via Essex, but it will be in safe hands if that happens.

I went to a property auction last week,
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for ... 43076.html sold for £337,000. House, outbuildings and some land. (it does not include the chapel although C of E are open to offers as a separate purchase).

I didn't say that I bought it. I was there with the other half who was buying 30 acres which touch the family farm.
All the houses sold bar one and all the land bar one 60 and one 80 acre packages that were not accessible without using someone else's drive.
The economy is slow but not stopped yet.
