Some time ago, forum member "Pilkie" (hope he's still around as he was having some major health issues when he last posted.. ) bought himself a TF - no, not one of those with the engine behind the seats but a fifties specimen - that had an alternative engine. Now, I like A series motors, they're everywhere and the parts are cheap, they can take a fair amount of tuning before they're in danger of exploding in use and they're old in appearance so unless you run an Austin Seven, in which case the logical engine upgrade is to fit an OHV version as made by Bean or Reliant, then an A series isn't generally thought too offensive.
However, there's one four cylinder OHV engine that really ought only to be used as an ornament or an anchoring device.. Read on, I'm saying no more..

Lovely MG, but there's only one type of "large journal" that's a good thing and it's found in a library, not under the bonnet of a jalopy! (Unless that Jalopy's engine has been built by a certain Mr J Clark from Coventry, the man's a total engineering genius and even I would happily own a Triumph 1500 or similar if its engine were one of his..)

& Pilkie, if you are still around and can be bothered to write some stuff, how's that lovely cat and have you bought any more cars since we last heard from you?

never quite made it farther north than the forest of dean but thanks for the offer! everyone was rather surprised i travelled with my 3 small kids, i was even stopped & questioned by french border control & was asked where wifey was.. i resisted the urge to say she's under the patio & said she's at work & no chance of les vacances... they seem to think im some sort of hero

Fathering three kids makes you a hero in my book. Travelling with three small children, now that's impressive.
