No, sorry, I'm not Dave, though if you know why my reception of the freeview TV channel of that name has been rubbish since September when it used to be excellent here I'd love to hear the explanation. I have to say; my interest in (note, not obsession with ) the lovely Ms Friel is exceedingly healthy. Though my Betamax copy of her appearance in "The Tribe" has worn almost through the tape at the point where that scene happens (bed, t-shirt, leg raising, etc, Rich will know what I mean 'cos I PM'd him a still from the TV showing of the Poliakoff classic). But that's Betamax for you, no new tapes being sold and old stock ones tend to be randomly unreliable, which is in no way related to my use of the pause and slow-mo controls.

Seriously though? Ever since I first had my turn at the forum's favourite communal dream; the one involving a younger (Brookside era) Friel and a red K10 (with the CVT transmission option and a period Sharp radio/cassette fitted in place of the factory Clarion wireless set), I've longed to meet this most gorgeous of celebrities and have a darned good chat with her about, among other things, her views on why they ever stopped making Austin Maxis, whether the Colette was the best ever K10 and how she would go about rescuing Saab.

I was joking bout going to school with her (did you see the *), though I did go to school with a girl called Jennifer who looked rather like her. Sorry.

I have a stash of L750 tapes somewhere. I think the main issue with Betamax tapes was that the tape remained in constant contact with the head even when being rewound, leading to premature wear of both heads and tape. You are though wrong about tapes not being made, though they are mostly sold for the professional market now as Betacam is used mainly in the OB news field as small compact but high quality cameras. I know Preston Polly have them (UCLAN to anyone south of Wigan) and BBC Manc were using them though they had changed to SX which the tapes were not interchangeable with the domestic VCR versions.
I know all of this due to my unhealthy obsession with Anneka Rice and my three summers working for Limehouse Studios.

Just like to introduce byself as I'm new on the forum. My name is Jean and I'm from South Africa. Found this website/forum while browsing through some old 1999 issues of PCM. Wekl that was the last time I found the magazine for sale here in SA! I'm busy restoring a 1939 Studebaker Commander 9A and helping my dad restore a 1958 Ford Custom. Not very British I know but ther are a lot of british classics in SA and would one day like to own a few! In the meantiime I'm learning as much as I can and think this is the perfect place to do so.
