Here's the place to chat about all things classic. Also includes a feedback forum where you can communicate directly with the editorial team - don't hold back, they'd love to know what they're doing right (or wrong of course!)
The cowboys! Don't they even use chicken wire these days?
Still need to know what VM8 is please, disappointed that someone who works on the show can't explain the change and/or whether it's advantageous to viewers.
J "Home is where you park it", so the saying goes. That may yet come true..
Chicken wire, the Rover would have needed Condor wire and a washing machine carton if you'd have gone down that route. As it was turkey width cooking foil had been rolled into balls and stuffed into holes. When it came in there was so much rot and aluminium foil on it it sat about an inch higher than when it went out with all new steel panels etc in place.
I think ROVER stands for Rotten Old Vehicle Eventually Repaired!
The guys doing the work have no say in how the filmed stuff is edited into a programme. The programme makers do read the forums so they will have picked up on the comments and critisms.
VM8? Dunno, I come from an age when TV didn't start until 8-00pm and Muffin the Mule was a kids programme and not an offence!
Hopefully they have picked up enough positive comments to do a second series. (Assuming Fuzz is daft enough to sign another contract )

Managed to watch the Anglia & Fiat 850 episodes now, my only criticism is we don't see enough detail. For example, we saw Tim take the Fiat's old exhaust in to be repaired etc but didn't get to see the new one, not even when it was fitted to the engine. I like the idea of an "extra's" section on the DVD
I'm sure Fuzz like the rest of us is well up for it. We know how each other work both in front and behind the camera and I'm sure all the comments both good and bad will be taken on board. It is nice to say that there are far more folks who say they enjoyed the series than those who say they didn't. Judging by the viewing figures that are still going up the team must be doing SOMETHING right.
I know I keep saying it but it is made for everybody from the fairly interested to the 100% enthusiast. You can please......
oooooohhhhhhh, automotive porn (Triumph Stag!) another one of the cars on my wish list

I may have missed it but there was no mention of the torn soft-top or the (what looked to be) blistering sills. The mobility automatic conversion looked like a good bit of kit. I'm sure a good autobox could have been found rather than fixing a broken one which would have cost significantly less. My local land rover specialist keeps offering me zf boxes for beer money.

The soft top was replaced though I know it wasn't shown. It had a double duck fabric one made and fitted. The engine had a new cam and lifters plus a general overhaul. The gearbox came at the right price and was the one to match that engine. By having it rebuilt we knew it was good. We could have paid a lot of money and still not be sure how long it would last.
The sills weren't bubbling up in fact they were sound. The 'bubbling was infact sylicone sealer that was behing the sill covers. The view shown was after the covers had been removed. There had previously been a significant amount of welding repairs done to the underside. Not all of it pretty so the not so nice bits were either done again or tidied up.
I haven't driven a Rover engined Stag for years and I have to say it did go well. The pedal conversion was very clever.
I do miss my Stag that some thieving piece of trash stole on the 18 September 1983. He got caught 5 days later and asked for 70 cars to be taken into consideration!! He got 18 months but wouldn't say where any of the cars went to. Oh yes he was out in 12 months. 10 years later the same guy was caught after stealing a friends XR3 Turbo. He got a suspended sentance for that! I'm not bitter you understand. Wah!!!
Most impressed! How? Because someone from Nat Geo must have been watching and now we have not only the necessary HD but also hour and a half "warts and all" episodes! Marvellous, big thanks to all concerned.
