Done a little more

Painted up the front bumper as needed a little work as after removing the washers I had painted with a red that was not quite right

Image

Image

It needed new brackets to replace the heather robinson bolts someone had drilled through the edge of the wing after the old mounting points rusted away
I welded some nuts behind the drilled hole and then bonded it to the bumper. This was then covered in fibreglass to secure them properly

I had to weld up some small holes in the passenger door skin that where then ground back filled and painted.
Thought Id show the process I use for blending new an old paint maybe it will help someone or maybe Il get tips on quicker process!

So first going over with 400 grit, then 800 grit , 1200 grit, 2000 grit then coarse cutting compound then T-Cut then a polish and wax

Bumpers back on and she is starting to come together..

 Wow! Is there any better colour for an Alfa? Nice work, you must be thrilled to bits with the way it's come along.

Cheers! Has to be red doesn't it!

I'm fairly pleased but ti is a bit of a mish mash of paint quality now.

It has had a respray before got it but they did not key it in the gaps etc very well and it was quite orange peely. Also they must of had moisture in the paint so when it get wet and stands you get some milking that needs cutting back.

Ideally it would have a complete strip to bar metal and spray up etc.

But I'm aiming for a good looking usable car that does not owe me a fortune that I can track and have blats on sunny days that has no rot and is as good mechanically as it can be.

I feel I'm achieving that but does not stop me hankering for a concourse one!

Been a bit quiet as busy with work but have been creeping along to being finished and ready for MOT.

I have refitted the bodykit and bumpers after getting some rubber arch trim to sit between the arch bodykit. I did not paint it, previously someone did a respray on the car and painted this bit and it just flaked. And I quite like the look as is.

I have used screws not rivets to put the kit on so I can access the arches easily and re waxoyl regularly.

And today I finished going round painting the black trim. I had gone a milky grey over time and now the rest of the paint is in good nick looked terrible.

I wanted to make sure it did not flake again, so I used white spirits to clean, then Halfords bumper prep spray then bumper black paint. This was used as a key for another coat of Satin Black.
I did not like the finish of the halfords bumper black hence the satin. And I did not want to use gloss black as I though it was to shiny versus the original look.
I did the door handles and the wing mirrors too as they where also tatty.
All took allot of time consuming fiddly masking!

I am going to do the window frame surrounds next as they are tatty. Then give here a clean, blEed the brakes again and stick her in for an MOT!

Latest Update.

With the car sat for 2 years under various tarps and car covers and all the welding and grinding etc, the bodywork needed a proper clean now everything has been sorted.

I started with a T Cut then a clean over with a clay bar.

This was followed by a clean off with a panel wipe type cleaner and then sealed with Wolf Guard Sealant.

All pics are done off my naff 1.3mpx blackberry because I forgot to get the proper camera out!

Alloys are letting the side down now so planning on a refurb but may do that after the MOT. The inside need a major clean out first!
