V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1(SHE LIVES!!! only just!)
If you want to have nightmares about LPG, I'll post some pictures of the 2nd hand kit I picked up yesterday. it is in a plastic tub and looks like a complete rats nest.
Aaron, "bad patch" errors mean windows can't read the disc you are booting from either the hard drive, DVD, USB, etc. (John, Linux won't boot either if it can't read the boot volume). That can mean a bad sector (startup repair will sometimes manage to fix those), lost clusters caused by improper shutdowns, potentially a virus, etc. If Windows can't fix itself, boot from the install media in whatever format, launch the command prompt and type chkdsk c: /p
That will force windows to run a scan of the drive, if it says it finds errors then run it again until it goes all the way through without finding any. if it doesn't find any errors I would be surprised but you can make it scan for physical errors by running chkdsk c: /s /p. That does a surface test of the disc.
Hopefully that will get you back in to windows but if there are bad sectors and it has lost some information critical to startup then you may need to do an in place upgrade (ie re-install windows over the top of itself) to fix it.

Absolutely true, but then it's so easy to fix GRUB with a bootable USB pendrive, a cup of tea and a healthy dose of smugness.TerryG wrote:John, Linux won't boot either if it can't read the boot volume

its all greek to me

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1(SHE LIVES!!! only just!)
Regarding the pc, I did try a different hard drive with a known good working copy of windows 7,
and got the same! And without a functioning cd drive on the tower I will have to wait till I can get
one. So back to the slow laptop for a while.
There is no software to set the one I have up and it came off a BMW! And the kit wasn't exported
outside of Turkey although their other LPG Kits were! Which means that I have a general purpose
wiring diagram if installing a new kit, but no connector pinout details.
Would have done been out working on the car but ended up with my head in a bucket most of the
day!
But the think I need to do is get the door class stabilizers/bumpers repaired and replaced, even
the one I have is missing it's felt/fabric covering and has been a bit over used(drivers door gets
the most use after all) So I need to know a good place to buy similar to what was used hence the
photos.
I have yet to start looking for what they used for the weather strip on the doors which will need
replacing eventually.

We've all been there. Top tip: Traffic cones make excellent buckets.

Couple of quick points:
If you have been swapping hard drives between computers that is what has caused the fault. Unless the machines are identical (or at least matching drive controllers) you will knacker your windows install.
You don't need a working CD to install windows 7, it comes on DVD not CD but more importantly, you can install it from a USB stick really quickly and easily. or at least get it to run a startup repair and see what's gone wrong.
Access problems to the drive can be caused by:
Corrupt partition (usually can be fixed with a chkdsk)
knackered windows install due to it having been used with incompatible hardware configurations (ie putting the drive in a different computer)
failing hard drive
poor BIOS configuration
faulty SATA cable
failing power supply
failing motherboard
faulty RAM
faulty processor (or more likely cache within the processor)
I could go on but without the workstation in front of me diagnosing the fault is really taking a stab in the dark.
If you have access to a 4gb USB stick you can legally download the windows 7 ISO from Microsoft, image it to the USB stick (there is a Microsoft tool for doing this) then boot from that. it will take you 10 mins to make the stick then boot it and run a startup repair. it will either fix it or tell you why it can't.

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1(SHE LIVES!!! only just!)
Thanks for that Terry, I only used the other hard drive to see if it was the software and
not the hard ware. Mother has that jinx touch as if she uses it she breaks it! And like the
volvo, the astra and my other pc and her laptop she was using it for days before it went
wrong
I've been telling her to get her laptop fixed so I can have mine back to myself and her's was
was just over 12 months old. She sat her's on blanket covered knees (so no air can circulate
and cool it!) with the the cable plugged in the plug pulling on the socket at an angle. I have
told her if I catch her doing that with mine she won't be using it ever again and I will break
her legs! AS she wonders why when the power was plugged in it wout heat up on that side
of the laptop!

Oh dear! That's a bit too Quentin Tarantino for this early in the day.
(99% of laptop faults are a result of furballs, let a vet deal with it, then buy one of those stands from the 99p shop. They only work properly if your machine has a vent directly in the same spot as the fan covers but they do have pretty blue LEDs that flash in time with the minute variations in supply load that HDD activity causes).
