spent most of the wekend on the mazda, mainly trying to get the radio to work, basic problem is the front speakers would not work, it eventually turned out it has a rare option of a external amplifier which was only fitted for a short time and does not appear on the wiring diagrams! It is bolted to a bracket up high under the dash, so I spent ages with my head in the footwell removing it and lengtheing the speaker wires to reach the radio. I also got the seats re-coloured and fitted, a vast improvement.
Finally the TR broke down on the way to work, eventually found the security cut out switch I had wired in seemed to have failed, I managed to jury rig it and it passed it's MOT at Lunch time, the instruments also failing en-route (fortunatelly except the speedo and lights).
A quick look afterwards identifed a common cause, one of the ignition feed wires has broken at a connector, so should not be to difficult to fix.

It sounds like you have had an eventful day. It's a nice feeling when you get to the bottom of an irritating fault
