Before packing up for the day I made this closing section up for the end of the chassis box to the factory pattern

Once this is cleaned up (next workshop visit) the whole area is then overskined with a plate that comes down to weld in around the lower rear suspension link.

Drummond - one of our fellow Jowett car club members was down from Scotland for an overnight stay - Drum has been around Jowetts heading on for 50 years or so and there are not too many tricks he is not aware of - so with this in mind we put him to good use

Drum has a keen knack for rebuilding the quite complex coloumn gear change shafts

The shaft was taken apart - refurbished as required - the old one had quite a lot of play in it which makes for a lot of fun when it attempts to select two gears at once

Once rebuilt and set up to take the play out, Keith then soda blasted the externals of the shaft

Cleaned up it was then sprayed with a zinc primer

So thats one bit of the mechanicals completed and ready for paint - there is a quite a lot of painted metalware within the interior - dashboard / window trims / steering column etc and these will all be repainted along with the column change shaft at later date in the restoration

It's a very busy time of year for thr day job - but I am making some progress - the closing panel was made up for the bottom front of the rear inner wing and the inner face sprayed with a zinc rich weld through primer

Front section of D post looks ok - but hides yet another bucket of rusted out / overplated metal
