Loads of old American tin rumbling back and forth by the seafront today, no photies as the traffic was moving too slowly for drive but too quickly for neutral. Among them was the green Montego that appears everywhen big old Yanks get together.
This was from a previous year's beach meet at around the same time:

today i seen my vogue , not seen her for a few weeks but finished work early and popped down to where shes been slumbering for many years.
the bloke i bought her off died suddenly a few weeks back and seeing as its still in his house made it a bit tricky. i rang his wife today and she was fine about me going down there.
went down with the new battery and fresh petrol in hand. checked the oil and water, cranked her several times with the ht lead off to circulate the oil and ....shes alive. had a bit of a fire scene out of castaway..superb.
running lumpy but ive ordered a set of plugs (she has electronic ignition) plus a spin off oil filter and will see if i can sweeten her up the weekend.
if alls well im aiming to get her up on axle stands and run the autobox through a few selections.
no brakes, but was going to replace the components anyways, just makes loading her onto the transporter a bit more of a challenge.

all the electrics are fine inc the 8 track stereo

Remember that if you drive the autobox on stands, and without brakes, then don't put it in PARK because you stand a good chance of snapping the park pawl off inside the box. You need the drivetrain to be stationary before engaging PARK, and without brakes, you have no way of doing that.

Still, if the worst comes to the worst, I have a pawl I can sell you.......

They've probably heard that a good welder stays at your place and are after a quote. If it's a rotbox African one that'll almost certainly be the case.

Think a RRC can rot? Wait while you see how bad some African-built Benzes are! Last time I saw one of those, it was a four year old one waiting at the bodyshop where one of the students had a placement. Collision damage job? Nome, it was in for repairs to rust in the inner wings, suspension mounts and radiator crossmember areas so MB had sent it discreetly away to be fixed.

Either that, or you owe your dealer and he's coming to collect.

Took both the Jupiters to the Uxbridge Auto Show last weekend - where the classics were completely out numbered by row upon row of 2000 plate onwards over pimped Beemers - supported by their brainless owners - stereos blaring drum n bass - side walls of tyres grooved by the wheel archs - supported by a heady contingency of 90 plate onwards fords which had all been deep dipped in a vat of strong glue and rolled up and down the auto trinket aisle of Halfords

Anyway - back to the classics
