Re: daimler 250 v8 1967 recomissioning
hi guys
well yesterday all the auto box oil cooler pipes came off. to say the previous owner made a mess is an understatement. both fittings were brutially tighted and required a gentle warm up to release them. both did come out but the front one had been cross threaded at some point and the back one had been rounded off before I even got there.
once removed and the pipes released the olives on both pipes had been over tightened to the point they had distorted the pipes. Also there was no front mounting plate for the flexi hoses so the whole pipe work was free to move about under vibration. The front flexi pipes where split but not leaking but ordered a new set.
I had to remove the gearbox damping spring from the chassis and found this was also bodged together with a nail holding the spring in. ordered new spring bushes
top and bottom.

well put the hear shields back on the car on Sunday and also refitted the front brake guards. Replaced the two damaged oil cooler fittings (many thanks Harvey!!). I also removed the rear heat shields for some TLC as they has a little surface rust on them. also give me a chance to blast up some stone chip under them. Although the surface still had its original underseal and this looked in good order I will re-cover it just as a matter of course.
only other things done were to sand and pain protective anti chip paint on the door edges and to start to put on the bumper mounts.
hope fuly today the transmission fluid will arrive and I can see if there are any leaks now.
cheers

I hope you've ordered the correct fluid. Only use fluid that meets Ford specification M2C-33F/G. Don't use anying that says DEXRON on the container, or any of the modern fluids.lhubbard wrote: hope fuly today the transmission fluid will arrive and I can see if there are any leaks now.

Hi there Guys
well having refilled the gear box with the correct fluid (thanks Harvey) I was in a position last night to test the gear box for leaks and also the engagement of the gears. Firstly I filled up the the desired level and ran the car. Had no leaks at this stage. Secondly I engaged drive and was greeted with a smooth engage and no harsh jump forward. removing my foot off the break the car moved forward slowly and smoothly. I then checked the tray I had placed under the car for leaks and it was clean. Next I jacked up the rear wheels and engaged drive runing the car forward and going through the gears. The fluid level dropped and I topped up to the required level. So far there has been no leaks and the gear engagement has been sorted.
One irritating problem is I broke one of the screw in caps for an ignition lead. I feel abit irritated having the bye a new set when firstly it is a new set and secondly its only one. Has anyone got a single lead they can donate or know where I can get single leads?.
many thanks for all the help in sorting out these problems
