It's not so weird, I actually have several.

I think my last one died about 5/6 years ago and has been replaced with an LCD. My parents have a 14" CRT in their bedroom that I won in a school competition in the 80s.
I think the biggest reason for having an LCD TV (other than taking up MUCH less space in your living room) is HDMI.

HDMI-Scart adaptors are available and fine for the Sony as it's only capable of 720p "HD" which, in all honesty, has far less impact on picture quality than the tube's refresh rate, in this case 100Hz. It was state of the art in its day and still gives an LCD a good fight on 720p material simply because its contrast ratio is, by the nature of the medium, vastly superior to any LCD though I'll concede gladly that image geometry can be more stable on an LCD set.

Then there are the two 7" subs that live in the sides of the neck section of the Sony's cabinet and the array of forward facing electrostatics to take care of the front and reflected surround sounds. I'm not fond of trailing cables, hence any further speakers are fed by my wall of boomboxes and a Linex fm gadget that transmits brilliantly all over the village house.
When the Sony finally fails in a big way or the parts become scarce to find, then I'll go for a plasma (or LED as those should be available in large screen sizes by then), but only if I can't find another low hours Trinitron on the Bay of E.

Somehow, Lisa Rogers' fixtures & fittings just don't have the same warmth on an LCD.

Hang about chaps. How did we get from a Lisa Rogers-style intimate cast (OK Rich, sorry, of course it's an egg .....) to tellies? Again?

John - another vote for the good old Sony Trinitron, I bought mine back in 1982, and have only just stopped using it - and that was because it's in 5:4 format and I was sick of losing the edge of pictures (such as the score when watching sport) and my digi-box didn't allow me to re-size the picture to fit. There's nothing actually wrong with the telly itself, it still gives a superb quality picture and the sound, although only mono, is vastly superior to most of the sub-£400 flat screen models I looked at.
