Thankyou Mr Rusty I had a couple of minutes today and adjusted as you say,but gauges aren't in the best of condition, they had been left and forgotten or mislaid where I've found them in the past, and tried to save leaving to soak in oil to rid the rust on them. Some of them are readable. I opted for .012 and .013 to make the .025 needed. The battery had insufficient amount of volts to turn the engine,I left that on charge. Can't understand what was causing the battery to drain whilst driving back from my workshop unit to home. Could be the battery is getting old,or alternator issue.
As the breakers did not open whilst driving, would it have caused harm to the system?
If the points were closed through an entire rotation, then there's no way the engine could have run. It's more likely that there's sufficient deposit on one face to give the impression of there not being a gap as it'll prevent the feeler passing through the gap, if so then a fresh set of points and a new condenser (between 0.1-0.2 microFarads at 630 working volts will do the job nicely) will soon have it running reliably again.
J "Home is where you park it", so the saying goes. That may yet come true..
If stuck for feeler gauges, I always found a bit of card from a Rizla rolling paper packet would gap them near enough (yup, I've always been a bit rough)
Only trouble is everytime you get the rolling tin out it looks likes you have been tearing off Roaches and every bugger thinks you are a pot head....
A situation easily avoided by making roaches from bits of Cornflake packet instead! Not the expensive 'flakes mind, their boxes are far too thick. So I'm told by someone I know.
