Thanks.john i will go take a look. i finished the firat stage clean of the carbs today moving on to stage.two now to remove the.smaller.deposits ready for service kits.

Interestingly i attempted to discuss the ignition options with "david manners ltd" as they supply a.lumination solution for my engine. i was greeted with my inquiry by a very sirly voice saying he was not here to help.me fix my car!!! Any one else had a similar experience with this.supplier?

Best regards

What a pompous little twunt that guy must be. Optronic costs what, around £200 on average these days? He just lost the company a possible sale for that amount and perhaps more besides as I'd assume that you'd not make them your first choice for other parts either.

The bloke needs a good talking to by his boss or, failing that, a slap!

How well is the Daimler served for parts generally? I'm guessing that you'll be fine for bodywork bits & pieces but how about that glorious piece of automotive-themed sculpture that lives under the bonnet?

Well

interesting enough i got a humble pie.call.back from them to say sorry for the bad service. that also offered my parts at trade price which was very good.of them but asyou said they could have missed alot more trade.

Well the engine is actually very sweet i have rebuilt the botton half and not all i have to do is replace a frew rocker seals and put.back on my newly referbed cards. parts wise its very good most paets are available. altbough i have my eye on a spare engine for the right price. i am certainly looking forward to hearing it purrr. took me 6 hours to clean the carbs to a state where they actually look workable. i reckon there was years of old fuel on them. they sitting now shiny on my table ready for new jets to go in tomorrow.

I have been supprised as to how available engine parts as well as most auixilaries and.consumables.

I shall be happier on friday if i can get a nice tickover and rev with all the new goodies going on her. then its chrome cleaning and re_chroming.

Good choice sir
I haven't had mine long (6 months or so) and I adore it, she looks good but I think a paint job in recent years is masking a few hidden nasties ;)
I also have had an issue with the jets on mine sticking, she carried on pumping fuel out and eventually onto the floor.it seems to have rectified for now to let me concentrate on buying other bits - I've noticed two track rod ends inner and outer on the drivers side are perishing and a spilt has just appeared this last week on the sill leaking a bit of filler no doubt :S oh dear!
Other than that she is solid underneath and the engine is in very good nick, I have just got her a new home to rest in for the winter but going to SORN her for a month or so to get these jobs and any others done as not had time until now and MOT is due pretty soon - probably stick her in and see what the tester says and then sort out whatever he picks up that I have probably missed.
The 250 is gorgeous though - I actively sought the 250 V8 rather than a Mk2 proper as I love that engine - gorgeous.

Baines for your window rubbers. I take it you're referring to the quarter pane seals and the strips along the edges where the drop panes enter the doors?
You may also need new clips for the latter, those can be had from Bresco.

Beyou are correct john it is the strips that fix on the outside of the wind up windows and scrap the glass.

Dont suppose you got a website address.for.those companies?

Certainly do:

Baines

Bresco

The Baines' catalogue is vast and can take ages to search through from end to end, come to that so is the Bresco one but between those, you'll find the strips and their wretched, annoying, incredible vanishing clips! :D

I don't see how the jets can have anything to do with that fault? This is normally down to dodgy float valves. Clean or replace, easy job. I believe there's somewhere you can get rubber tipped ones for extra-sure sealing.

Cheers :D

To be pedantic Luxo - Viton, not rubber cos it's resistant to the dreaded ethanol :geek:
Agree though, it will be the float valves, they always seem to leak after many years even though when you change them you cannot detect any wear indication or contamination with the naked eye. Iv'e tried just cleaning out the float chamber but the flooding always seems to persist and you end up replacing the valves, which fixes it
