It actually turned out to be a blockage on the inlet pipe of the pump and therefore as expected the water was not being circulated around the engine. Not sure what caused it. Only thing I can think of is that in the past someone has added a rad sealant and over time this has built up, although the cooling system has been flushed previously
The only thing that still puzzles me is how the water flow bypassed the pump when I flushed it through successfully
Now time to sort out the clutch......
