Still I did end up with a Morris 1300 that had been heavily tweaked unknown to my father who sourced it for me. That thing had the performance of a dolly sprint and still returned around 40mpg. Still would have liked the Equipe though.

My regret - for a 1st car I could have bought a late 60s Bond Equipe coupe in red. Took it for a test drive and the whole car wobbled at around 60mph. Now I would know that was just a wheel that needed balancing, back then it was enough to put me off buying the car. The price? just £250 quid.
