breakdown truck

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

They get loads of attention when their owners open the bonnet, lift a leg in and kickstart the engine. That, and when they demonstrate how the car turns in its own length, a feat few - if any - other front wheel drive cars can match. But it's easy when the front wheel can steer through 180 degrees.
There was a tractor owning member of the local club who used to show his Fergie all over Northumberland and Berwickshire. Sadly, he shuffled last spring but he drove that wee, grey tractor to every show he ever did, even if he was entered for the ploughing. Not content with that, he also went to the shops on it, to the pub, to his chapel and was on the rota for pulling ignorant grockles' cars out of the sea when they'd assumed that the tide tables for the causeway at Holy Island only applied to others. That used to amuse him and I'd love to see anyone doing the same in a Lada. =-O Blimey! Lada was already in this device's T9 dictionary. :-D

I showed the link to the fergie to SWMBO last night. She said I'm not allowed it but I can have a david brown. Guess what I am on ebay looking at right now (when I should be working).

Rich, that list is just too weird! How so, Baldy? I hear you ask. Well only some six hours ago, I was dreaming about a Toyota Cressida, though that one wasn't the coupé, it was a saloon in mid blue metallic paintwork with a vinyl roof in a slightly darker blue. The one in that dream was a 1978 S reg example. Annoyingly, my alarm clock made a horrible noise before I had the chance to test drive the Cressida.

And the Daf looks very familiar, below are photos taken by me during a trip down to Newcastle a few years ago on a mission to rescue a load of similar cars from their home in a memory foam warehouse that was being cleared to make space for new flats:

...etc.

There were about half a dozen in there, including a Marathon Coupé in red, a couple of rare estates and that lovely solid blue saloon in the photo. All were rescued, two are now back on the road, the rest are being put to good use. I do love a Daf. 8-) And a late 1970s Toyota..

"bought" no. Been offered a free one, yes.
You remember the rust in peace photographs where you have no idea what a vehicle is because it is inside a hedge? That is what this was like. It belongs to SWMBO's uncle so he is going to cut the hedge back so I can see the thing. If it can be persuaded to start, i'll bring it home. Worst case scenario I can park it in one of the hedges here ;)

As soon as it is extracted and I get my oily hands on it, I will post some pics then formulate a plan on what to do with it.
