You say that like it's a bad thing. just think of the hours I don't have to spend cleaning it

For a city type that might be acceptable, but in farming areas, you'd be laughed at in the pub and people would stop trading with you as they'd consider your mind far too clean. All of which reminds me that there's a rather lovely RRC in the next village which has just appeared recently. must try to stop and get a photo for the "what old tat has someone abandoned in your locality today" thread.

I did debate replying with a comment about south American generals who can sell you a plastic mini, all you have to do is give them your bank account details, address, dob, inside leg measurement..........
Then I thought that may be a bit cruel so decided not to

I've bought a couple of tools from Lidl. My Vernier calipers are very good. However I want a bit more of a decent set so have decided to use them, plus my brother and dad have abused some of the type of tools I've bought for a long time and they are still good.

Have a look at this local newspaper report from the Derby Telegraph where a couple of con artists managed to fool two different cashiers at Halfords, exchanging notes and then getting away with 2 Sat Navs without paying. I'm not suggesting that they know you got away with it and have your photo on file but you never know

Ouch!
I'm not complaining, given that my subsequent visit was a) my first ever journey taken by air and as such has allowed me to overcome a fear of such things (so the theory went, but I was heavily sedated both ways and am going by sea next time ) and b) lucrative for un car-related reasons and no, I haven't been a mule.
I went into Halfords today for contact spray, batteries (their PJ996s are even cheaper than Wilko ones just now), a new 3/8" drive 7/16" AF socket and etch primer, they charged me the correct amount. The sods!

Yes, like we all say, go back and pay. I've actually been told off by sales assistants for suggesting they've undercharged (they insist they are right and I can't argue with their bar code data. I don't think their brains can handle someone wanting to pay more for stuff!
As said, I doubt the person would get into trouble unless there was a camera that "caught" him not scanning the item. They would probably put it down to shoplifting if the stock was wrong.
One teacher I know went to a new B&Q and the tills were coming out with all sorts of strange prices. He commented on the high price for something minor (say £2.00 instead of the ticket price of £1.50) and got that corrected. However, he didn't mention the timber he bought for a fiver should have been thirty or forty quid! He reckoned that, if it was scanned and he paid for it, then he wasn't obliged to pay what he would have paid if the system worked properly. I can see his point, but would probably said something if it had been me!
I stopped in there tonight, and the guy who served me wasn't there so I spoke to the manager. He thought initially I wanted a refund and seemed quite shocked I was coming back to pay for an item I hadn't been charged for!
He seemed genuinely stunned but also grateful, and I got a 10% discount but also the peace of mind that I restored someone's faith in humanity.

Definitely worth it then
Clear conscience and appreciation from the store manager. I suspect he will be speaking to his staff reminding them that not everyone is as honest as you and everything they let walk out the door comes off their commission, etc.
