 I could find a place for that in my collection of similar things. Mono boxes, because they're small, make good gap fillers to stand between the hardcore boomers and they're handy as bedside radios. I'd just pop a C180 full of relaxing tunes in there and let it play while I fall asleep.

Maybe let me know by PM what value you'd place on it? If I'm going to insult someone's idea of how much their stuff's worth I'd sooner do it privately. ;)

A C180? I never came across cassettes with 3 hours capacity. I used to swear by TDK D90s. The best general cassette money could buy. I've still got all mine, a few of which are in the Dolomite.

Sorry for the slight thread drift there! That looks like an older mono radio/cassette (no pause button). I remember my parents getting one in the early 1980s. We'd tape the Top 40 on Sunday teatime when Tony Blackburn was presenting it. Happy days.

TDK DC180 to be precise:
Image

As long as the deck has decent tyres on its idlers and all is working correctly, there's no downside to using long tapes. Print through can be a problem on cheaper ones, not so with the TDKs, I have several of these, some with entire live concert footage on them from the early '80s, recorded from the mixing desk at the old (long defunct, it's now part of the Gate complex) Mayfair rooms down in Newcastle. A mate did the sound mixing and I used to travel up from my digs in Leeds to keep him company when there was a turn that I fancied watching.

You learn something new every day...

I remember the instruction booklets for cassette players back then that didn't recommend using tapes longer then 90 minutes. I only ever bought one and it was a TDK D120 and I recorded a local radio show (a late night phone-in circa 1991 that spanned the midnight slot) on it. I would trust that tape of your's John. The older TDKs were probably better made than later ones were.

Much as I enjoy this cassette discussion, I think we should get back on topic. Any further progress on getting the car running again?

John is it just the casset player you wand and not the box or both?
Just so I can find a smaller onewith plenty of bubble wrap and get a price on postage.

I went to install the gear cable bracket, and one of the holes didn't line up correctly.

Image

The gear leaver in the car had been moving so I had to ream out the smaller hole and
add a notch to go around a bolt head on the transmission mount extension work.

Image

I had to put a brush wedged between the front two seats pushed forward and the gear
stick to hold it in park so I could get it right this time. Then it got a quick
spray of hammerite red. I then spent too long trying to get the transmission mount
back under the car and squeezed into its slot inside of the engine bay.

Nothing is limed up or bolted into place, I will try that tomorrow if I'm lucky!
The reason it took so long is the inserts in the mount to make it more ridgid kept
trying to pop out! I knocked off when I could see my breath, and reached down and
my legs were like ice, I had been out too long.

Aron, ideally, I'd like it with its original box but it's not critical. Could we perhaps hook up somewhere half way between your place and mine so that I could collect it rather than risk it to the post? I'd cover your fuel of course. If you would much prefer to post it - and I'd understand that from the point of view of your privacy being preserved that way - then its value would probably be less than the current cost of sending something that weighs around 3Kg in a box that size, which would bring its desirability to me into question. :)

My apologies for dragging your thread along a radio-related route.

Well the transmission mount and the gear selector cable bracket are bolted onto the
car loosely! It was a right royal pain trying to get the bolt holes to line up, especially
when the only way of adjusting them was to use crowbars and breaker bars and and
a sledge hammer(don't ask!!)

I'm too cold and wet to do anything more, so I will leave it for a dryer day to set the
the bracket up correctly and tighten the bolts, then get the car back on all four wheels.

My brother backed his Landrover Discovery into one of the neighbour's walls while
trying reverse into cut( the rear access for some of the bungalows). Then a few hours
later mother did the same with her volvo estate(only with less force)

So I had to spend the only bit of good weather on friday fixing my brothers discovery!
The bumper light was pushed that far back, the only way of getting what was left out
was to smash what was left out (something I realised after spraining my wrist)

The replacement light has been fitted so that his discovery is road worthy again!
I doug out the cheapo JML reverse parking kit which was from clearing out uncle bill's
and put it with a note on my brothers bed.
The note read "either use your mirrors or put your training wheels back on!"
He saw the funny side in the note!

But spraining my wrist made it harder to work on the neon, it also didn't help that I
spent time tracing the wrong wire due to the colour blindness kicked in so instead
tracing a blue with white stripe I was tracing a green with white stripe. Also the gear
selector is causing problems and not playing ball. I was too cool to continue and I will
have to miss out on this Sunday's Yorks yanks club meet, I don't want to drive that
far in pain in-case I have any further mishaps.

Richard If I made him fix his own it would be on the drive longer thsan mine has been :?
Besides if his wasn't put right, he would have been getting mother to chauffeur him about
which would have a knock on effect me using the volvo when mother isn't using it!

I sprained my wrist when I fell trying to get up after removing the remains bust light and
making sure he hadn't cut into the harness(another thing he wouldn't have thought of!)
