V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1

Post pictures and stories about your cars both present and past. Also post up "blogs" on your restoration projects - the more pictures the better! Note: blog-type threads often get few replies, but are often read by many members, and provide interest and motivation to other enthusiasts so don't be disappointed if you don't get many replies.

You've done all the right things so once you're MoTd you won't have any problems taxing the car. All your work is paying off. How about compiling a list of the outstanding jobs and then you can tick them off as you go along. No doubt you may end up adding to the list but it will give you a good idea of where you are and as you tick off/cross out each job it will give you a psycological boost.

Hello!

I know I don't post much in this forum, or indeed at all in this topic. However, I do read it daily and have followed this topic since it's earliest days.

Today I feel it is appropriate to post something, something to congratulate you in achieving what you have.

There has been many doubters about you even reaching this far, having the car running and moving about is an amazing achievement, those who seem to enjoy making nasty comments about starting the engine seem to have suddenly gone very quiet indeed!

That's all, thanks for keeping me entertained, it really is inspirational stuff on so many levels.

 .

No nasty comments on my part Alan! All I offer is help and advice. We're all enthusiasts and most of us are readers of the mag. Cars like this will be future classics and with stuff such as ECUs this sort of hard-won knowledge will be valuable in years to come.

As Toledo man say ecu modules are going to be a pain, and there is a thread
relating to the 4 pot ecu in chrysler neons which would be a good read (if a bit
long) which might be a good read for those who wish to look into it further!

http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 5c25b75fcf

There is a guy now tackling the skim and tuning of the neon ecu and selling his
services in the states(read thread for details)

As for the Neon it's self started rolling off the production line in December 1993
and there where over 3,000 made by the end of 1993. So the Neon celebrates
it's 20th birthday this December.

Today is a none starter as it is, with thick fog. Add the harpooning I had yesterday
at the medical centre(taking of blood, injections etc) I am amazed I managed to
do what I did afterwards in what time was left!

I found and pulled out the box containing the power steering off my previous neon
which I think has been sat in that box for over 4 years, a couple of which were
where it was sat without a lid under the caravan(still in it's own juices)
So I spent some time taking the pulley off the shaft.

Image

I do have a good few yards spare of the clear hose, so I used this to connect into
the power steering system.

Then I started the car up so the pump will do all the work for me in draining the
system of the old oil. And for some strange reason after screaming like a banshee
on Sunday, the pump was quite till all the oil was out! Any ideas on why?

Image

I haven't pulled the pump off the car, as my back was starting to grumble, and
my legs were starting to go! The temporary hoses removed and the old system
was reconnected so as to stop any further oil spills.

Oh and the drivers seat is bolted down now, but I think the chrysler seat might
get changed to that of a volvo (the correct colour of course) as mothers hasn't
aggravated my back and is more cumfy on the long trips down to the Yorks Yanks
Club meet. (it's a thought for later and not definite yet!)

When I was getting the intrepid ecu from the USA I managed to get two seats of
plugs for the ecu. So Now I know the intrepid ecu is staying I will leave the
adapter the way it is and cut the old voyager ecu plugs off and fit the intrepid
ones(saves having a mess of wires under the bonnet)

At a guess a seal has gone a bit slack and the thing is getting air in there somehow. This might make it run dry until it clears the air out and lets the lube back into where it's needed.**
Had similar with a steering pump on an Audi 100. it got to the point where the pump would intermittently sieze. Scares the bejeezuz out of you when you're under the bonnet, a loud shriek and smoke coming off the drive belt

Landrovers and Welding go together like Bread and Butter. And in the wet they are about as structurally sound

I may as well change the pump to be on the safe side, and it will give me
a chance to see how easy it is to work on that side of the engine with
everything else still in place.

I am dreading taking the plastic pulley of the off the old pump! :?
