Ian, it really depends what you are using the car/engine for. One of the main things the trumpets do is affect the formation of the fuel/air mix cloud at the entrance of the cars (caused by air pulsing), and this is critical for correct mixture performance. If I recall correctly you'd basically want a very short trumpet if the engine is regularly used in high rpm but longer ones for a road use engine. Chap, amazing work on the car I love the cleaning job on the carbs! I am rebuilding a V8 MGB in another thread on here and your work is certainly inspiring.
