V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
As I am used to winching 2.5 tonnes of land rover about off-road my knowledge is not going to be that relevant to you. I would suggest having a google to see what people with Suzukis use as they are a bit closer in weight.
I can't emphacise enough how much you should go on a course to learn how a winch should be used. Please think seriously before connecting it to your tow hitch. It is all too easy to damage yourself, your car or the object you have attached the end of the cable to. I would imagine a shock load on to your tow hitch will pull it clean out of your boot floor.
As well as purchasing a winch you will need at minimum some heavy duty cable rated for the apropriate current flow and new battery terminals that are thick enough for your starting cable plus the new winch cable (DON'T USE JUMP LEADS!). Wiring up a way of being able to raise your idle to 2k is probably a good idea to get max amps out of your alternator.
I would suggest a new HUGE battery as i suspect your current car battery will be flat in 2 minutes or better still 2+ batteries and a split charge system one deep cycle battery for the winch and a normal battery one to run the car.
There are lots of other things to concider, downloading the manual from warn's website for your specific winch will tell you what the minimum power requirements are and suggest fixings so you can make sure every component is up to the job.
I still think that before doing any of this (including purchasing a winch) you should get your car running as if you come across anything wrong with your new setup the money you are spending on toys would be much better spent fixing the problem that prevents you from driving.

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Thanks for the info terry, I have made a few changes already on the
setup which would help without realising so adding a second battery
should not be a problem, as I fitted the larger capacity alternator
160amps instead of the 80 odd amp that was there.
I will be looking into doing a winching course just to be on the safe side.
According to the sellers details of the winch it came off a Suzuki sj413
And the winch was marked 3300lbs (1497 kg) which I assume would be
the maximum initial pull on the winch after which it would decrees.
And 8.5 metres of 5.3mm cable on it.
I will definitely be looking at the specs and requirements for the winch
When I get the full details off the winch when it arrives
http://www.xylemflowcontrol.com/files/r ... _guide.pdf
A standard 1988 Suzuki sj413 Weighs approx: 900 kg (1984 lbs)
A standard 1997 Chrysler neon Weighs approx: 1100 kg (2425 lbs)

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Just received a message for the sellar of the winch.
quote on postage before you list it or you will lose out on your profit!
This kind chap has realised his mistake and advised me it was his
mistake, and is willing to keep to his item listing and not demand any
more for postage, which some unscrupulous sellers would!
So a warning to anyone selling stuff on the bay of E, get an actualebay seller lff2158 wrote:Winch packed & posted this morning parcel force 48 hr i must check
postage costs next time or shop around ( cost me £21.60 - never
mind a lesson learnt )thanks for promp payment Dale

That doesn't prevent your offering to make up the difference though! Tightwad.

Some wiring done but no pictures taken. I did find out that I have
made a mistake. The intrepid ECU sockets have the mouldings in
a different place. I could shave down the plastic to make the plugs
fit the sockets. But I will only do that once I have confirmed that
the original Voyager ECU won't work because the skim code wasn't
removed!

Well a little more wiring I the connected up the battery to check
something only to realise I have screwed up some where! The car
was in park, with the handbrake off, and I turned the key to the
start position only for the handbrake warning light to come on!
This means I have screwed up with integration the voyager & neon
wiring. To give my brain a break from wiring I thought I'd check the
fuel pump and pressure was getting to the fuel rail. This is after a
read of fellow car nut's, posts on his thread about his chrysler new
yorker.
There was a blockage, caused by the gasket paste used to seal the
connections. As luck would have it, it was the hose connection at
near the fuel rail. A cut and straightened wire coat hanger was
pushed down the hose to un-stick the sealant and the pressure of
the fuel behind it pushed it out.

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
The winch arrived today so a couple of snaps so you you know what
I got for £40.00. I quickly unboxed it and hid it in my tool shed out of
sight so dad didn't see it! If he had seen it before I had mounted it to
the platform, it would have spoiled the surprise.

The end of the motor apears to be the terminals.

And the tag was still on the hook end of the cable, and shows 5.3mm
and length 8.5 metres.

I hope that the 356 kg marked on the tag is not the maximum weight
the cable can take!!
The max cable it can take is 5.5 mm 15.2metres long.

That's exactly what it is: SWL Safe Working Load.
Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Oh well, never mind. If you find a stricken Aixam, MC or Ligier Ambra in a dyke somewhere, that string's roughly strong enough to extract one of those. If its Diesel tank isn't full that is.

Re: V6 into a RHD Chrysler Neon mk1
Okay a little news and it's not good!
Below is a photograph of a an example I am faced with. I have placed
an arrow against one of the causes of my headaches with the wiring.

According to the various destruction manuals I have for the Neon the
wire which the arrow is pointing to is supposed to be Yellow!!!
Does that look yellow to you? as it looks white to me!
Is it any wonder I thought I was loosing the plot!
There are others like this, which is why I am thinking it might me only
one option as I am dealing with two wiring looms here.
That option is to remove all the black tape I've wrapped the wiring in
and trace each wire from one end to the other, to check which plug it is
in and which pin it is for and where it should be going etc.
And with the weather forecast being rain that is going to set me back
even more delays
