Re: Condenser

Thanks for the comments on this, I have fitted an Accuspark kit to replace points and condenser. The car does start and run much smoother. But under sharp acceleration it jolts and misfires once or a cluster of misfires then its fine.

A few scenarios :

- rev engine when parked - smooth
- low speed ...

Re: Condenser

My only aprehension in fitting those kits is someone told me you have to dynamically set the timing, and I have no experience of this.

Condenser

Hi, where should I go to buy a good quality ignition condenser? I have a 79 MGBGT and seem to be replacing mine all the time.

I put a new one in, the car does 50 or so miles perfectly then runs rough at high revs until I replace it. This process repeats.....

Thanks

SU carbs / idle - 79 mgb

Hi,

I finally got round to weakening my over rich mixture today, after resolving another points based problem.
- drove car up to temperature (until fan was cutting in and out)
- balanced the air flow
- reduced the mixture, until the revs rise then fall when piston is raised.
- re checked the ...

Re: MGB not running right

Success.

This was a lesson in not overlooking the obvious. Although the points and condenser had only done 200 miles a closer inspection spotted heavily detoriorated points. Replaced both and the car runs well!

Thanks all.

Re: MGB not running right

Thanks for the comments so far.

Spent some time checking this evening,
- plug gaps correct. Two were dry black (1 and 3) and two were wet black (2 and 4).
- tappets were good, one sligtly tight. Now adjusted.

I then started it and found the idle uneven. It races for a split second then slows for 2 ...

MGB not running right

Hi,

I have a '79 mgb gt. After being off the road for around 8 years, I replaced all the ignition parts, cleaned the carbs and replaced the pump. Evenually got it running well and it passed an MOT in May with flying colours. It ran and started well. I did the Brighton run and all went well, other ...

MGB rough idle after short journey

Hi,

Having finally passed it's MOT I'm starting to put some miles on the car.

After driving for about twenty mins the car idles very lumpy, like its about to fall over. It does not stall and still pulls away but it feels like it will cut out. If I pull the choke out a little it settles but the ...
