Re: Ignition woes

Surely, Kevin, you must be able to pick up a decent second hand distributor from a motor wreckers. Provided the centre drive shaft does not wobble from side to side [worn bushes] just about all expendable parts [points, rotor, capacitor] are available. The weights in your present dizzy can be re ...

Re: 12v Coil

TerryG has the nub of it -- use only a Bosch coil. They are more expensive, but worth it for peace of mind. There are, however, 3 types; their standard coil [which I used in the 70s on my 3c Gazelle], a Sports, which even with E.I. would be a waste of money, and their resistive one which, if you ...

Re: What oil in a 1993 Rover V8? (TerryG)

Good thinking, Welshie. My son has an early Rangie with the 3.9l and uses that oil -- no worrying leaks!

Re: What oil in a 1993 Rover V8? (TerryG)

Whilst I agree, generally, with TerryG's suggestions, it's worth bearing in mind that other manufacturers, such as Shell and Mobil, market similar products. As long as the oil conforms to the ACEA oil specs A3/B4, you will have adequate protection for normal motoring. But if, as Terry implies, you ...

Do it up as suggested -- bloody tight -- but add a little Loctite. It wont unscrew itself.

Re: Gunsons Eazibleed and 13/60 herald.

Go along to a motor wrecker and get a spare cap. Drill a hole in it and fit a metal tubeless tyre valve. Don't forget to remove the valve core first.

Re: Sunbeam Alpine with Oil filler cap blow-back.

You do not mention the system used when doing your compression test. The correct method, known as ' wet and dry' allows testing the rings and valves separately. Firstly, the dry run, which I suspect you did, tests the total cylinder compression. For the second, the wet, 2 or 3 squirts from an oil ...

Re: Pulsing dashboard lights

Check out your earth return circuit for the dash. If the connection becomes loose, or heavily corroded, vibration from the engine can cause pulsing.

Re: Non Starting Mazda Eunos (MX5)

Before replacing fairly expensive electronic parts I would suggest you check out the Air Bypass Valve [not to be confused with the Idle Air Adjustment Screw]. It can be found on the induction manifold, and has 2 small pipes attached which allows radiator coolant to circulate; 2 larger pipes for air ...

Re: F****** Potholes!

You poor wee things!
What sort of tyres do you blokes use in the UK? Here in West Oz I drive my Triumph 2500 across farm paddocks and along gravel roads with holes a darn sight worse than that shown in the first post -- and have been doing so for the last 4 years on the same Goodyear road tyres; and ...
