Re: breakdown truck
Well you live & learn John, are there any photos of the full size car?
My car knowledge is definitely limited, I saw this yesterday and had no idea what it was. Mister Google tells me it's a 1964 Karmann Ghia, a what?

Now I know why loads of Beetle pictures showed up when I Googled VW 1600. That was the only badge on the car. It stirred my curiosity when I saw the tail lights. My next door neighbour, where I lived in London, had a BMW 2002 that had similar tail lights.

Publicity picture of the time found on Google images.
As far as I know only the one was built, along with smaller, similar version based on the 1100/1300 platform. For whatever reason, BMC declined to produce any!
The search also turned up a picture of the smaller one, incorrectly captioned as an 1800
Looking at the BMW 2002 reminded me that a guy I worked with years back had a similar one except his was red. It got stolen one night - the police called him at work later the next day to tell him that they had recovered it, but it had sustained damage to the windows and roof so was probably a write-off.
What they didn't tell him was that the thieves had dumped it in the canal and a narrow boat had grounded on it!!!

^^^^^ I really shouldn't find that so amusing, but..
Rich, I'm loving that Connaught Green 16/60. At one time, its being LHD would have put me off, not least because the last time I drove an LHD example of its cousin, the A60, I instinctively went for the parking brake with my right hand, as one would in a RHD specimen, but I'd forgotten that in being moved from the LHD position, it would, entirely logically, have been positioned to the LHD "offside" and not the RHD one that we all know. Result: right hand solidly trapped between the two base cushions 'til the car's owner came back to see how I'd got on during the test drive. I ought to have bought that one. After all, if I'd made sure that I always had a passenger aboard, then they could have slid the passenger side of the front seat to the rear, thereby liberating the trapped hand.
Now though, I wouldn't care whether it were RHD or not. It's a lovely looking old thing and in that condition here, in the UK, that with RHD would probably be somewhere close to Bentley money and for a weekend plaything and occasional longer runs, the Bentley of choice would be only slightly more expensive to run but even quieter than the best BMC offering of the period - a VdP 4 litre R.

Re: breakdown truck
Some people just have no sense of aesthetic. The Jaguar XK150 is such a beautiful car and the Morris Minor Traveller is a design icon, but graft them together and it looks like the Jaguar is suffering from a severe dose of haemorrhoids.
