brake fluid

#1 Post by ruby » Wed Jun 28, 2017 2:45 pm

Can anyone help sort our confusion over which brake fluid type is recommended for our 1971 Fastback Rapier. Any information we've picked up elsewhere seems only to confuse the issue!

Assuming no previous owner has changed it from standard, any DOT 4 fluid will be suitable.

DOT 4. Be careful with DOT 3 as it's been known to create problems with older British rubber.

Probably worth flushing the old fluid out completely with nice clean new DOT4 too.

^^^ Yes, this.

And if you're at all uncertain about whether it's had silicon fluid in its system at some time, change all of the rubbers while you're about it.
