cleaner emissions

Is anyone acquainted with the hydrogen/oxygen set up for cleaner emissions? From what I have read,is that the government are pushing to ban Classic Cars from cities throughout the UK. I remember at one Classic car show,there was an Austin Farina with a kit installed,and the owner mentioned that the kit reduced the emissions (mot result)

A very nice bloke from Lancashire, who goes by the name of Oliver, has specialist knowledge of this sort of thing. Oliver was a member on the long-defunct Reliant forum and the last time I saw the man, he was over at my place in his impressively clean running yet high mileage MK2 Golf GTI, a video clip of whose dashboard mpg readout is seen on his company's website. Seen this touted about a few places.

The crux of it appears to be that splitting water h2o into hydrogen and oxygen gives the engine fuel to run on and thus improves MPG. It presumes that you will hold enough h2o to convert and not make the car unduely heavy ( using more fuel) nor that the the whole production of the 12v from the alternator ( after running the relatively fuel inefficient engine) will =100% efficiency

ps showing a car getting 50-70 mpg isn`t rocket science just pick the road/ conditions etc I once was in an Old vx Omega which would do 999mpg...

Yeah, my MK7 Golf showed 200mpg when going downhill with the engine off and coasting, legally too I might add. But that wasn't cheating as the TDI does that when the settings menu is in Eco mode and we all know that anything VW says is as good as hard fact. :lol:

The phrase "spare electricity" is designed to fool the gullible into thinking they are getting something for nothing which, of course is not the case. If you take more current from the alternator it requires more power to drive it. Some cities are proposing to introduce low emission zones and vehicles over a certain age may be restricted, although it is unlikely to include vehicles in the "Historic" taxation class. Such a ban,if it takes place, will be a blanket ban and trying to claim exemption on the grounds that your vehicle is equipped with some dubious device is unlikely to cut much ice with the authorities.

They should encourage it,the Government did in the 90's in Germany. I had a closed loop cat system install on a Pinto Sierra with a carbed engine

That's fine if the device actually works, but it would need a programme of testing, accreditation and inspection, you can't rely on a supplier's claim if it hasn't been independently verified. It would be too complicated and bureaucratic to be worth the bother.

Considering the title and enquiry is about 'cleaner emissions'.

If the car is standard petrol or diesel, the surely you need to be looking at adding LPG. As in the USA they run LPG in with the diesel to give a cleaner burn & makes it more efficient. But unlike diesel powered vehicles, petrol powered vehicles can run soley on LPG.

If I remember correctly vehicles which run on LPG have greatly reduced emissions compared to that of petrol. And the efficiency depends on the kit used. Added bonus LPG is half the price of petrol.

The LPG kit is also very similar to CNG and both I think are if the vehicle runs on the supposed to be exempt aren't they?

There was a guy trying this out in the shop unit next to mine about 10 years ago. Apparently,it was also supposed to increase fuel mileage. He was one of those guys who (I hate to say this) always had a get rich quick scheme going and was consistently broke. Given that I've not heard anything about it since, I'm guessing that the concept does not have much merit. At the same time, I knew somebody else who was experimenting with 'ozone'.

Nobody is going to ban classics, there's too many affluent people that own them :)
