ESCORTS MKI/MK2
ESCORTS MKI/MK2
With the prices Escorts are fetching these days seem to be a growing number of almost complete wrecks being sold and then mysteriously a couple of weeks later the supposed car being shown on line same colour original licence plate in immaculate condition ...i have a strong feeling these are being bought to legitimise an Escort that they have already that has been worked on /resprayed etc but with the donor number plates..put on it ..then they can get a high premium for it ....a friend has had this experience with an Escort he sold recently....your thoughts on this most welcome

Possibly, i hear that they are making new shells for these cars so #'s would be good.
Re: ESCORTS MKI/MK2
Yes but it was much too quick for a shell replacement..the eventual buyer was contacting him asking about mileage and what seats it had and the colour...of same....also when he asked him about the front seats which were expensive rally seats he had fitted before selling the car he was very evasive......sounds just too dodgy does it not.....already had mk2 escort he just fitted the no plates from the the bought Escort mk2

Personally I think the whole thing with a certain oval blue badge has gone beyond comprehension - with stupid prices both being asked & paid for anything wearing the said badge even complete piles of sh*t - I witnessed this last Saturday when a Mk 2 Escort Mexico requiring complete and I mean complete restoration changed hands on the fall of the hammer for £8,500 - with commission + vat that's £8,925 If you want to add in the fact that the vehicle has already been the subject of an insurance total loss claim in 1994 + no V5 and yet it still changes hands for daft money - I wonder how long this will be before it appears back on the market described as a stunning example of the marque - no expense spared restoration and all that load of cobblers - only asking £35k guv ?

Given that punters out there are willing to part with big lumps of cash for RS / Mexico / Cosworth / XR variants of the brand - it will only bide to attract the unsavoury - don't get me wrong they will be some very nice examples out there in the market - but I have yet to admit that I have seen a 'fairly priced' one in the last 12 months - each to their own I suppose

Re: ESCORTS MKI/MK2
It's known as "Ringing." Back in the day crooks would buy a written off car from a breaker. It would be perhaps a year or so old, they would then steal an identical model, transfer all the identity details such as chassis number etc, then they would sell the car as legit, usually for just a slightly cheaper price than market value. The scam was rife back in the late sixties/early seventies. It seems that what goes around comes around.jimtylee wrote:With the prices Escorts are fetching these days seem to be a growing number of almost complete wrecks being sold and then mysteriously a couple of weeks later the supposed car being shown on line same colour original licence plate in immaculate condition ...i have a strong feeling these are being bought to legitimise an Escort that they have already that has been worked on /resprayed etc but with the donor number plates..put on it ..then they can get a high premium for it ....a friend has had this experience with an Escort he sold recently....your thoughts on this most welcome

Re: ESCORTS MKI/MK2
all they are selling is the v5 and a couple of spares!
Re: ESCORTS MKI/MK2
Well it's a couple of spares more than most such listings seem to offer. I'm guessing that he pulled the item before he got a jolly good spanking from eBay for being a silly boy..
