mini sills

#1 Post by foggo » Thu May 05, 2011 5:10 pm

hi all, i am about to start work on my wifes mini starting with renewing the outer sills, it is a 1992 with the narrower sills fitted, question is can i fit the wider sills instead? reason being the narrower ones seem like a dirt/water trap where the openings are,

Hi the narrow sills are the correct ones, the wider ones are oversills these are designed to go over the narrow ones, generally trapping rust under them. In my opinion its better to fit the narrow sills once the old ones have been removed and all the rust dealt with thats in the floor.

Hope this helps , Chris

If either of your need bits, do let me know... still got a couple of boxes full of stuff for a 998cc. Think I may have a couple of seats too.

Reminded me of repairs I did to a mini traveller back in the late 60s.Cill repairs consisted of grp overcills fixed with self tappers and the front end replaced (wings, slam panel and valance) with a one piece front hinged grp moulding. All were sourced from a motor factors and were common place and passed MOT  quite worring really, how times have changed.

Yes, the openings are drain holes for the sill section. If you fit the wide cover sills any moisture that gets inside just gets trapped between the panels and ends up rusting out the cover sill and the edge of the floor too.
