You could use an Arduino to calibrate your gauge. Pretty simple and I have already written some software you could adapt. I will see if I can find it.

Hi CM - many thanks for that post - however, I have to confess that I don't really understand much of that thread, or what this thing will do. Bear in mind also that any circuitry would have to work off a 6V system, and that any chance of me "modifying" any software is pretty much non-existent. I'm afraid that apart from basics, electronics is not my forte!

In any event, I think I've now sussed out the problem, a new sender is on its way and then all I need to do is to reverse the polarity of the car and it should all work - fingers crossed anyway!
