Painting brake disc shields / backing plates

I have just purchased new brake disc shields for my range (to go with all new brakes). They are painted what appears to be the same black that all new panels arrive in.
I'm thinking VHT black but do I strip the black "primer" off first and if I do, is there such thing as VHT primer and VHT stone chip to give them a bit of resistance against the crud that's going to hit them under the car?

They don't get too hot so I generally stone chip them and give them a blast of satin black.

Same here - don't need VHT paint. Either as above, or a decent primer and a couple of coats of chassis black paint (I use the Frost stuff or POR15).

Cheers :D
