Idle problem with Weber 28/36 DCD
Idle problem with Weber 28/36 DCD
I have fitted a Weber 28/36 DCD to my Hillman Imp.
Car starts OK and with choke out 'races'.
Ease the choke slightly and it runs and dies.
Have tried blipping the throttle with no choke and if I catch it right it runs for afew seconds and then dies.
Fuel is getting through OK.
Ignition is spot-on and have additional earth strap fitted.
Have double checked that there are no air leaks.
Any words of wisdom as to possible cause?
Thanks

Re: Idle problem with Weber 28/36 DCD
I could be way off (and if so will soon stand corrected I'm sure), but to me it sounds like a possible blocked jet. Choke I believe is a seperate device on these carbs so would negate say a blocked idle jet etc. I think a quick strip and check / clean of the carb and jets and float height check would be prudent when fitting a fresh carb anyway.
That is unless it has just been removed from another car and was known to be in good order immediately before the transplant.
Some good info on these carbs here http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/36dcd%20manual.pdf

Re: Idle problem with Weber 28/36 DCD
Hi
I think arcye is right too. On my carb- fomoco, there is a tiny gauze filter underneath the needle valve. take the top of the carb off, slide out the float pin and undo the intake jet. have a look to see if there is a filter. .
Cheers

Is the carb jetted to suit your car or did it come off something else? You'll never get it to run correctly if it is not jetted to suit your car. go on the internet and see what jets are recommended for your car. All jets are available in sizes to suit your needs from Weber specialists.
The idle jets on a 28/36 Weber are located on the side of the carb, these can become blocked, so take them out and blow them out with compressed air.
John.

Re: Idle problem with Weber 28/36 DCD
Thanks for the comments. Appreciated.
The carb has been rebuilt by Carburettor Exchange at Leighton Buzzard. Spec of jets etc., from information on Imp Club site.
So it is as near as possible to a 100% spec for the engine set-up.
Have the Haynes manual so have full information as the link given.
Will go through jets 1 by 1 and make sure they are clear.
