July issue - how to balance

#1 Post by Minxy » Sat Jun 13, 2015 1:28 pm

Hmmmm balancing con rods, essentially all you have done is given them all equal mass so, yes, in effect they are in balance with each other but they are not balanced per unit. To balance a con rod one needs to make a dummy insert for the big end with lugs sticking out either side that can sit in a 'v' block ( so it is presented in the plane the gentleman in the picture is holding it) by resting the little end on scales one can measure the weight exerted and dress off metal from the extreme so they are all equal. Then with a smaller jig that fits the little end one can then measure the big end end and balance that.
Never play chess with a pigeon. It will knock all the pieces over, S*#t on the board and then strut around pretending it won.
