Back to the MG Maestro is it a 1600 or 2.0? The reg and grille suggest 2.0 efi but the magazine says 1600. Lots of fun with the carbs if it is the 1600.
Hope they have a good trip.

I am going to have to ban myself from reading this thread until the mag appears in Tesco. It was still the Feb issue this morning.

It's actually an Austin Maestro 1.6 on a single su carb.

It was refurbished into an MG Lookalike as the Austin name is not as well known throughout the more southern stages of the rally.

It has a few mods such as Carb cooling fan from a Maestro Turbo, manual choke carb replaced the Auto Choke version.

Pretty much every known weakness in the shell was reinforced to give a stiffer stronger shell.

All but minor improvements were done at Tony Fowkes Body shop in London (Tony being well known in rally circles from the 70's Endurance rally's.)

I actually thought it was one of the best mags in absolutely ages and as someone who buys PC, CM, LR Owner and LR Enthusiast every month I thought this months PC was the best out of all of them.

Really enjoyed the porting article especially and will have a go at it.

Eventually found Dan's Rebel van too, imagine hiding it on page 59, right opposite the location suggested by the car index.

I also loved the road trip. Well done to the Vitesse and the Rover, but who'd have predicted that - from that three - the Minor would have been the one to head for home with a broken engine?
And the hint of more obscure Eastern motors to come, can't wait for that, but have to. Life's so unfair.

Exchange inlet manifolds for both SU and Weber 32 or 34ICH are available on an exchange basis from Joe Mason, the Reliant engine responds well to the removal of the walls between 1&2 and 3&4 but needs to be done on an end mill as accuracy is the key to a better performing engine and more MsPG.

Just read the article on the London to Cape town rally feature. Also just read both websites including the diary for the PC sponsored team, (AKA the girls).No entries from the 25th day .Fair play to them on their achievement including doing their own repairs and for finishing in 8th place out of 41 cars. Who would have though that a Maestro would have finished such a gruelling event, and by two.....................

Ah, the ladas featured in the"Your Cars" page. The butt of many's the joke I'd bet. Well I don't think they are too bad actually, a bit dated looking granted,but they are certainly different OK.The white one really does look immaculate. Did the guy pay 75 quid for the red one or the white one? Not bad .

Yes, time was when Ladas were very common, and a couple of my colleagues ran them happily. Had the best toolkit ever with a stirrup pump if I remember aright.

Also had a colleague with an FSO 125P, and that was a whole different ball game.
