New mini....

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

New mini....

#1 Post by Dick » Sat Mar 30, 2024 8:42 pm

As a dad of kids fast approaching the age for driving, I'd like to get them a proper mini but as I have never won the lottery they are out of the question.. whats the general opinion of the new mini? Sis in law loves hers although my nephew is her own pet mechanic..she has the clubman, bought from a scrappy and since her son gave it a a full engine rebuild she's delighted ..

My daughter has the convertible (2010 model) but it has run flat tyres/rims which can feel very harsh on our awful roads.

Apart from a split coolant hose it has been very reliable. Bought secondhand from a MINI specialist about 6 years ago.

As above, drive one over a rough road before buying - we got rid of ours, it was a deeply unpleasant car to drive, and this was only one of the reasons. Seriously impractical too, we replaced it with a Morris Minor - much better! That's progress for you......

Thanks for the warnings, I'm not overly keen on low profile tyres, I put some on my celica gt4, it improved the handling on fast roads but was bloody awful on anything else..
