Led bulbs

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Led bulbs

#1 Post by Dick » Tue Mar 28, 2023 11:23 am

Anyone tried the led bulbs for their cars? The reverse lights on the fleet are like using a torch with the battery removed.. ive found some on the wish site but I'd prefer to use something that will work...

I've only tried LED headlight bulbs. My SLK had standard H1 halogen so I replaced them with LED. They were ok and definitely better than the halogen, but I then tried 35W HID that were better still. I will be replacing the indicator bulbs soon as the colour has fallen off them, and I will be trying LED.

If you replace the indicator bulbs you should replace the flasher unit with one designed for LEDs, because the flashing rate is determined by the current drawn and the LED bulbs draw far less than the filament bulbs. Similarly, if you replace the warning lights, do not replace the charging warning light as it provides the excitation current for the alternator.

I swapped out the reverse and rear fog bulbs on the BRZ for LEDS and they are amazingly bright .. I can actually see backing into the garage in the dark now ..

Hoping that the rear fog works enough to prevent some numpty from using me as a brake on the M25 in the fog

I wouldn't trust them to sell you the right part ... even at their inflated prices.

Google?

I've had good service from Autobulbs before, though never bought LED bulbs from them. They came up with the goods when I wanted to buy some tiny instrument and switch illumination bulbs though. They do stock LED bulbs - have a browse https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/
Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.
