Hi chaps, my brother in law is a lorry driver and is looking for a microwave 21 cm high for his brand new truck.. we've looked everywhere, even at the dealership and no luck.. as this will be home for the next ten years id like to treat him to hot food..
Im counting on the knowledge of the forum elders and general cleverer types to help

Hmm, that's an impressive bit of kit, but wouldn't an inverter and a regular, £89.99 AC mains microwave be more cost effective, as well as offering the option of using the inverter for other things, like an electric blanket.
:scared:

Agreed - Rich, we need more details, does it have to be 12V, or 24V, or is using an inverter (to provide 230V AC) an acceptable way to go? I'd have thought the latter, but if you can clarify then we know exactly what we're looking for. Cheers!

It makes sense, however it's not a very efficient solution. The guts of a microwave run on DC so you would be inverting 24 DC to 230 VAC then stepping it up to whatever voltage the magnetron requires with a DC-DC converter. You have also to consider the DC current draw from the vehicle battery. 800 W at 12 volts is 67 amps, not allowing for the inefficiency of the voltage conversion. He might have to park facing down a hill before cooking his supper.

To be honest chaps he's not fussed either way, i believe he already has an inverter just in case but its not easy to find one at 21 cm high.. (That's the size of the slot)
