Thanks mate, so far everything's fine with the car and we're getting about 41 mpg.. big difference to clio that does 70 mpg for the same trips...on the plus side fagash lil has a bloody good heater in comparison to the clio or the galaxy.. so with the winter months its really appreciated!

Hi chaps.. fagash lil has always had a squealing alternator.. when i checked the belt it was really slack.. so i tightened it up, so much easier than on my clio..
Anyway from what I can see its the cam belt too.. should this belt have stretched in 18 months? Should I get a new one fitted ( it doesn't look damaged) and if oit does snap will it damage the valves??

Never seen an engine where the cam belt drives the alternator. Cam belt will be toothed Rich, whereas the alternator belt will be ribbed along its length, but not toothed across.

If the cam belt snaps then possibly, so check the engine code against the database that shows which engines are non-interference and which are not, link below, but some French PSA/GM petrol engines are interference following very minor mods from the previous, ostensibly similar safe ones, as are some of the Brazilian engines, hence the need to check on the list..

Quick update chaps, fagash lil doesn't smell quite as bad and i still prefer the clio.....using that to teach no 1 child to drive :D
Anyway the gearknob on 206 fell to bits.. i stuck it back together with red insulation tape (customized/tuning) which worked well until it got really hot and wifey complained about glue everywhere so ive got some masking tape for now.. how do i remove the knob it won't unscrew and im terrified to look on Google

Think some are differet but the one on our 1.4Hdi twisted 90 degrees and then pulled off .. but you are risking punching yourself in the face if you slip!
