Well sale has been agreed and it's a good price.
The seller has stated that the fuel system needs an overhaul.
The seller didn't put it up on ebay or auto trader but on facebook.
It's an Elephant foot wacker/compactor.
I needed a wacker for putting the drive in & it works out cheaper than renting one.

Suggestions on what I should be doing before I try starting it when I pick it up on monday?

Picking it up from the far side of Newcastle.

I have also managed to get hold of a complete 2 stroke lawn mower to use for some spares just in case.
It has as you can see had the rest of the lawn mower removed. The head has been off & piston freed.

It's here I thought this bit of equipment was going to be begger & heavier!
Well I know I will have to strip the carb down but it looks like the air duct is bust. The throttle cable is bust but looks like a bike brake cable.
It's now stood in the front porch ready for me to get started on the strip down.

Err I got bored! XD
only reason I stopped it that I need to clean all the oily gunk off. And I am not using the stuff in the house or I'll be ill. Plus I don't have all my tools along the bungalow yet as no shed.
The connection pipe not manifold from the carburettor to the filler is plastic & similar to tubaware plastic. And that pipe is fecked.
The amount of crud on the carb makes it hard to see it's true colours but it is looking promising.

:o I'm seeing the Wacker and thinking that I'm looking at one of Oscar Pistorius' earlier attempts to devise a prosthetic limb, you know, before he invented thae leaf spring jobbies that enabled him to run.
Imagine that though; internal combustion engined, possibly even other industry-sourced human replacement parts. I'd have an angle grinder instead of a hand and maybe a hat made from old mini tyres. :|

I've had it outside a paintbrush with white spirits to clean all the gunk off the carb & the rest of it. I can now see the adjustment screws & linkages. The whole thing was then warm soapy water including the bits already removed washed & scrubbed down.
As you can see it looks like a bit of overspray on the id tag means it was overhauled sometime ago.

I'll pick up a bike brake cable on friday when I have funds. I can get an induction air filter mushroom type which will fit directly to the carb brand new for £10. I can't find my roll of fuel pipe I had for other stuff so will install fresh with filter.

So that will make cheaper than official parts.

The old filter pipe I holder will be put in a bag, so when it comes time to sell it on the new owner can restore it to factory spec if they want too.

I will respray the handle & side panels before re-attaching saves time later, while strip the carb.

After removing &cleaning the carb. I put it back on and needed to know how much space there would be for the car mushroom airfilter. I had to put the assembly back together. I had to bend out the removable panel to give an idea of what space. The mushroom one is way too big I will have to look at way around this.

Oh and the foot looks like it could be plastic

I couldn't wait so I raided the penny jars!
£1.80 for half a meter of fuel hose the right size.
£6.99 for a BMX universal brake cable kit from Halfrauds. (which is the new throttle cable)

Now fitted yes, I know I am still going to strip & paint the handle & side shields. And that there is the small matter of the air filter assembly to the carb. But this will allow me to test fire the bloody thing.

The only thing I didn't have money for was fuel :( so I have to wait till the morning.

I have an idea for an idea for a box to tube for bolting onto/through the old placement on the carb. Thinking Terminal box for steel conduit if I can find the right size But must get it running first!

I need Help!
Does anybody know there way around 2 stroke motors?
I am getting compression. I'm getting fuel through. The voltage at the spark plug is 2volts dc when trying to fire it up via pull-cord.
Resistance between earth on spark plug & metal housing near flywheel/pull-cord is virtually none existent. I had to shorten the HT lead and make it come out a different part of the casing as the copper was rotten towards the end as the end screws on & into the cable to make the connection. The flywheel has been cleaned so has the other part which sits next to it to generate electricity for the spark
Any idea what I am doing wrong & why it won't fire up?

2 volts seems very low to have reaching your spark plug. I would expect much higher in the region of 20000 volts. So I would look at the magneto setup 1st
It has been 40 years since I rebuilt a 2 stroke motor and according to my memory this may help also check out the link to this web page http://science.howstuffworks.com/question375.htm
With your flywheel there should be a magneto sitting just above it and if memory serves me on two stroke engines
1. Ensure the flywheel is correctly mounted (should attach to the tapered shaft with a key and keyway
2. Check the magnets are not loose in the flywheel
3. Check the magnets on the flywheel are clean and free from corrosion and oil
4. Check the surfaces of horseshoe on the magneto are clean and free from corrosion and oil
5. Ensure there is a gap between the magneto and flywheel magnets 0.0010" I think
6. To achieve this use 2 feeler gauges and place one under each end of the horseshoe to the magnet then adjust and tighten
7. Next would be the points and condensor that usually come as a set
8. Because you mentioned the spark plug HT lead being crappy at the end. These also breakdown over time and fault is not always visible.
9. Condition and gapping of the spark plug that also can fail without apparent signs as failure is generally when under load

I am unable to find the make of the engine fitted to your wacker packer, as there may be a service manual on line
However these may give you a few clues to 2 stroke engines
