LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)
LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)
Has anybody sensible tried this:
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Re: LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)
The BMW conversion is even more common than the Jack Knight 16V A head these days, the bore centres are apparently sufficiently close to make it work though I'm not sure I'd want Peugeot 104 DNA in a mini!
I know of several local minis with BMW heads, here's a photo of a Clubman Estate that I snapped at Ryhope potato week show back in 2009. Mitsuru has also posted pics of this one as it seems to get everywhere, suggesting that the mongrel engine works as well as it sounds:
I was more impressed by the fact that this Clubman has hydraulic bonnet struts, which should slightly reduce the likelihood of the usual bonnet-related injuries I always seem to end up suffering whenever I go anywhere near a mini's engine bay!

One of the Owners' Club members has or was building an A30 with that set-up .. I'll have to see if I can find out about progress.

Re: LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)
Not the first time a twin cam conversion has been done on an A Series. Back in the early '70's, there used to be a Mini built for hill climbing that had a Lotus Twin Cam grafted to the gearbox. Apparently it was an easy conversion....
Re: LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)
Plenty are grafting the Ford Type-9 5-speed to the A-series now. I know of some Toyota box swaps too ... coupled to a nicely tuner 1275, they make motorways more pleasant.

I should have made things clearer...a Lotus Ford Cortina Twin Cam engine grafted onto the Mini gearbox... Apologies.
Re: LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)
Someone is doing that at the moment on TheMiniForum (TMF) ... pics threw me at first as it looked like an a-series until I noticed the fuel pump blankng plate was on the wrong side! Looked like the block was on back-to-front!Flatlander wrote:I should have made things clearer...a Lotus Ford Cortina Twin Cam engine grafted onto the Mini gearbox... Apologies.
