new mini
Re: new mini
It's taken me a while to recover, and I still keep the smelling salts beside the computer, just in case. But what a silly billy I have been. There was I, thinking that a classic car was something that could generate excitement, but all the time, all a car has to do to claim classic status, is to dodge the crusher.
This has opened up a whole new world for me. In my new 2016 diary, I have, pencilled in: Watch paint dry. Watch a plank warp. Drive a Chevrolet Lacetti. Oh wow! What a fun filled new year I am going to have.

Excitement? Oh please , jalopies are many things, among them charming, loveable, cheap, attractive to the opposite genital group and easy to mend but exciting? Maybe if we allow the Tickford Maestro to be a rebadged Nuffield product for the day. Now there's a sensible, useable car that might - just might - need fewer inches of seat height adjustment than the Daewoo Spaghetti for it to grab my attention.

The replacement for your Transit Rich?
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

So what you are telling me is that if this Griffin badged Eurobox survives twenty odd years or so, and the Grim Reaper hasn't taken me off to the knackers yard, I am going to suffer the ordeal of having a spotty faced teenager, going all duey eyed over his first classic?rich. wrote:GHT wrote: all of the cars that claim classic status have to do this.. how many mgs etc have i happily scrapped.. i remember a time when people said escorts or minis etc would never be collectable.. now look at them i like the old lacetti its a cheap & cheerful old bus..

Re: new mini
Is this going to end up a "what is a classic" thread?
There are many 20+ cars that I would say aren't classics and, should I list some here, I would get flamed! Who'd have said a Metro or a Fiesta would be desirable in twenty years' time when they were in production?
There again, I'm not dewy-eyed over Moggy Thous (or earlier versions of the Minor!), Capris or early Golfs either! I gather there are people who like those too!!
I'd still like an early Vogue/Minx/Hawk or a nice H120 Rapier and would even consider swapping the Landy for a good AM V8 but I'd want a bit of cash as well

Tell me about it! There are some even stranger people who actually think that the Octagon badge on their new Chinese car, entitles them to call it an MG. Puh-leaze!rich. wrote:GHT wrote:oh yes! there are some strange out there people who like old mgs!
