Jeep Cherokees and THAT diesel engine

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

It is pretty tidy mate, at the moment its covered in dust and grime but once the sills are done it will clean and polish up nicely, I'll eventually pop a photo or two up of it cleaned and done when I finally get around to sorting it out.

I've been looking at other engine options just in case but there doesn't seem to be a common conversion. Don't know how feasible / hard / easy it would be to do but a nice Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8 diesel engine would be well suited in my opinion.

And.. yup, that is a Skoda Pickup you spotted, well, its the volkswagen badged version. Just deciding as to save it or junk it, its got 60 k on the diesel engine but had serious rot issues before someone forgot to remove it from a field they left it lying in for a year  . Not really viable now but still trying to persuade myself to break it up rather than get into another welding marathon.

That VM engine is not the best or the worst.

Change engine oil every 3000 miles and filter every 6000 miles.

Do not thrash the engine. Never allow to overheat.
From cold drive car gently immediately.

Keep away from motorways and heavy towing. Max tow weight 1000kg.

It can't be THAT bad. I've seen Diesel RRCs with 200k on them.
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Cheers chaps, looks like it stands a chance then. Sills are now plated up, rear section of exhaust has seen better days so will replace that and then a thorough service of all fluids and filters and hopefully MOT ready.

Looking over it even the rear springs are recent replacements, its never had a towbar yet either and doesn't look to have had a hard life at all. If the MOT goes well it will be on the road, serviced and good to go for somewhere south of £500 including purchase price. Fingers crossed it proves a good buy.

I probably will have a go at the vw pickup too, though it is going to be a much bigger job than is realistically viable for what it is, but, they are getting less common and commercials do become rare-ish classics in time so what the heck, perhaps its the right thing to do.
