thats very kind terry... i may take you up on that
clio was a nightmare to work on! starter is located on the back of the engine under the turbo & above the diff etc.. i got it off & took it to my chap, he took it apart & all the brushes are gone, replaced by an oily goo. not helped by the oil leak from the turbo.... i will get it back tuesday. more excitement to follow!

Rich, if your turbo is leaking oil, then I suggest you buy Terry's Golf. Driving around with a slight oil leak from a turbo has a nasty habit of becoming one of these "sitting at the road side, waiting for the French AA" situations. Whereas Golves never ever go wrong, not much, well ok, maybe a little if they're new ones.. :scared:

to quote ght, tales of woe...
long story very short, remove starter.. (if you remember my epic mr2 alternator replacement its nearly the same)
collect renovated starter motor
fit it, skint knuckles & fingers with some choice language to add atmosphere..
test.. it works but not all the time..
remove starter, more cursing check connections, grind off a bout 1 mm from main feed to get a better fit.. refit, & it works. refit all the bits of plastic etc, test the car & everything works fine...
try the car this morning, & its playing up.. drive to the auto electrician explain the problem, test & it bloody works .. try again & then it plays up, his advice drive home strip it out & they will check the new relay.. so i have taken it out, had the relay replaced tested and i am about to try again...
